Pregnant stray dog with injury and prolapse: Can she deliver?

Hi, it is not a prolapse it looks like some hyperplasia ( enlargement ) probably due to the fact she had many babies. I would not worry, it’s fine to have her checked over in a week. Hope this helps !

Hopefully this is just vaginal or uterine tissue you are seeing as she is getting closer to delivery. Monitor her closely for discharge from the vulva that is cloudy, bleeding from the vulva, or excessive lethargy. Start checking her rectal temperature every 4 - 6 hours - once it falls below 99, she should start to go into labor in 12 hours or so. And take her to the emergency vet if you see any concerning signs before your vet opens on Tuesday.

Yes she could be pregnant as males can be fertile at 5 months of age. She can carry a litter of pups, but her pelvis may be too narrow to give birth normally. Best is to discuss this with your vet who can do xrays of the pelvis and determine whether it will be possible for her to give birth without needing a cesarian section. If you do not want her to have pups and do not want the risk in the future I suggest you have her spayed.

It could be a vaginal prolase of a vaginal tumor. You should take Gracie to your vet right away as there are a number of concerns for these condition. First of all, some dogs may have problems to urinate, which is a serious emergency. Secondly, some dogs want to bite the protruding 'mass' and by doing that they will make it bleed and introduce infection. Vaginal prolapse is not always a surgical condition (it often responds to medical treatment) while vaginal tumor should be surgically removed.

I'm glad you are trying to help. I understand your situation. I suspect she was not spayed before this happened. I can't tell 100% from the "after surgery" picture but there does seem to be an abdominal incision that I can maybe vaguely make out meaning they spayed her. Regardless, they need to get her back for a recheck. Most vets do a free recheck exam for post-op patients so they should take advantage of that. If the prolapse was pink like it was in the first photo I would not be as concerned. The purple color is very bad......

Oh no, poor Ella! It does sound like she has a vaginal prolapse. I would have her seen be vet right away. If the tissue is left out too long, blood supply could be cut off leading to death of the tissue and/or the tissue could become infected. I would take Ella into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! I am so sorry that you are going through this! You are correct, Belle needs immediate Veterinary care. A lot of bully and smoosh faced breeds require C-sections. There should be an Emergency room open. I worked emergency for 9 years and was required to drive in despite hurricanes, blizzards and ice storms. I would find someone with 4 wheel drive or go slowly. I tired to do a quick google search based on your zip code, I hope one is close.
