My pet has a prolapse after surgery. Is it serious? Was she spayed?

Hi, it is not a prolapse it looks like some hyperplasia ( enlargement ) probably due to the fact she had many babies. I would not worry, it’s fine to have her checked over in a week. Hope this helps !

I agree that does look pretty severe, and I'm concerned with how red the tissue is in the picture. The problem with a rectal prolapse is that if it is left uncorrected for too long, the circulation of blood to that area becomes compromised and the tissue can die. Quinn needs to see a vet now to have this treated. I can't say how much it would cost to fix, as it may be able to be replaced manually, but it may require stitches to keep it in place. In addition, she may need sedation to have it replaced, and she may need testing to diagnose the initial cause of the rectal prolapse so that can be treated to prevent this from happening again. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. This looks like a vaginal prolapse. That is when the vagina turns inside out. This is very swollen and needs to be lubricated and then manipulated back into place. You can clean it gently with a warm wet cloth, then apply KY Jelly to it or Vaseline to protect the sensitive skin from injury, then I'd bring her in tomorrow morning to get this examined and treated. Not seeing a picture of the condition and not being able to give your dog a thorough exam, it is not possible to answer your question. However I suggest you take her to your vet on Tuesday, who can examine her and give you an idea whether she will be able to have the pups naturally and what is wrong with her vulva. If she is pregnant the uterus cannot be prolapsed, but she could have a prolapsed vagina, which is caused by the connective tissue that holds the vagina inside being very weak. So it would be best to have her checked by your vet.

Without the exact information, I can only assume that she had to have an emergency spay because of a serious problem like a pyometra, difficult birth, etc. Just a routine spay is still a major procedure, but an emergency spay because of the above conditions, is even more significant. Although it is possible, I am quite hesitant to think that this nipple redness would cause her to act so lethargic and unenthused about going outside. I am more likely to believe that there is some internal issue like pain or infection that is causing her to display this behavior. So yes, because of the above reasoning, I truly believe you should have her rechecked by your veterinarian as soon as possible to make sure everything is ok. I can’t really tell from the photo but it looks like a possible rectal prolapse. I suggest you deworm this dog and use granulated sugar on the prolapsed tissue. That should shrink it so it goes back in. This happens from straining to defecate so feed soft foods that are easy to digest. You can use amoxicillin if you have it.
