What if my pregnant dog took NexGard by mistake? Is she okay?

You do not have do use anything else if you use Nexguard, if you start finding fleas just switch to a different type of flea treatment such as Bravecto or Advantage. When pregnant the only safe product is Frontline.

No adverse reactions were observed in healthy Beagle puppies over 8 weeks of age when treated with 5 times the maximum dose repeated 6 times at intervals of 2-4 weeks. She should be fine! NexGard has a large margin of safety if as dog gets or eats multiple doses. Monitor for GI upset and feed a bland diet for a few days to settle the stomach. Your dog will likely suffer no ill effects.

Yes, Capstar (nitenpyram) is labeled as being safe for use in pregnant and lactating dogs. Just remember that Capstar will quickly kill adult fleas, but will not provide lasting flea prevention against hatching flea eggs or maturing flea larvae. K9 Advantix II is also labeled as being safe for pregnant and lactating dogs and will provide month-long flea prevention, but you would need to closely monitor the puppies to keep them away from the areas of medicine application. Yes. If your dog has had trifexis before then I would not worry and continue it on your normal schedule. If she has never had it before, I would choose a different type of heart worm and flea prevention because the most common side effect is vomiting.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Love the name Tikaani and I hope she is doing great. She is certainly old enough to take Nexgard. I have prescribed many doses of Nexgard to dogs and puppies of all sizes and ages. There are no known contraindications with this product so it should be extremely safe to use. Now just remember that all dogs are different and they all don't react to the same products or drugs in the same manner, so it's always possible that you try Nexgard and you notice some problems. This would be uncommon although not out of the question. I would not hesitate to use it on my dogs although right now I use a topical product for fleas/ticks. Just make sure you follow the manufacturers and your veterinarians instructions for administration. Good luck and I hope you and Tikaani are greatly satisfied with Nexgard

Poor pup! Nausea is less common with Nexgard than with some of the other oral flea meds available (such as Comfortis or Trifexis), but can still happen in some dogs. Normally, giving the pill with a meal helps to prevent this, but it doesn't sound like it's helped much for your dog. It normally doesn't matter what type of food you give it with, because the purpose of giving with a meal is to slow absorption of the medication so that it's more gradual - it's the presence of food in the stomach that helps, rather than any specific ingredients. So if this hasn't helped with your pup, you may want to try a different medication next month - the vomiting isn't dangerous and is not a sign of toxicity problems or any other serious issues, but I know it's no fun for either of you to have him vomit every month! He might do better with Bravecto, or a topical flea/tick med such as K9 Advantix.
