Yes, Capstar (nitenpyram) is labeled as being safe for use in pregnant and lactating dogs. Just remember that Capstar will quickly kill adult fleas, but will not provide lasting flea prevention against hatching flea eggs or maturing flea larvae. K9 Advantix II is also labeled as being safe for pregnant and lactating dogs and will provide month-long flea prevention, but you would need to closely monitor the puppies to keep them away from the areas of medicine application. Great question! Many flea collars are not safe to use on nursing dogs, and it doesn't say on the package insert this can be used on a nursing dog. I would therefore not use it. Instead, I would put Revolution on her. This is a spot on treatment that is labeled as safe for use on nursing dogs. I hope this helps!

Hi there.

I don't typically recommend flea collars for lactating (nursing) females. Oral medications like capstar are considered safe for lactating mothers and are relatively inexpensive.

Other medications are available through your vet that are safe for nursing mothers. Please don't purchase other over the counter medications for your female-some of them can be quite dangerous. I hope this helps!

No, this is not safe to use on your dog. Revolution is a spot on flea treatment, and it is approved and safe for use in pregnant dogs. You can get this from your vet's office. I'd recommend using Capstar as well. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is also safe to give pregnant dogs. Give her the Capstar to kill the fleas, and follow up with the Revolution. You will have to disinfect the environment as well. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Just keep her out of any room where you use Indorex or a flea bomb until the room is completely dried. I hope this helps!

Frontline and Revolution are safe for use in pregnant dogs. If you're already using a heartworm preventative with ivermectin, please continue to do so as it is safe for both the mom and pups and will help prevent her from passing parasites to the pups. And if they is due for vaccinations, getting them while she is pregnant will boost her and the pups immunity to disease. For tapeworms, Drontal is safe to use during all life stages, including pregnancy.

Yes, Frontline is considered to be safe for use in pregnant female dogs. The active ingredient (fipronil) has never been shown to cause any birth defects or other problems, and it's poorly absorbed into the body in any case so should not affect the developing pups at all :)

You do not have do use anything else if you use Nexguard, if you start finding fleas just switch to a different type of flea treatment such as Bravecto or Advantage. When pregnant the only safe product is Frontline.

Is flea shampoo, chewables, or vaccines safe for my pregnant dog?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It depends on the active ingredient in the shampoo, but likely no. Pyrethrins are not safe in pregnant dogs. I would contact your Vet for Fipronil products or look online. I am assuming by "children" you mean the puppies and not human children. If you want to tell me the name of the shampoo and the chewable tablet I can look in to it's safety. I do not recommend vaccinating pregnant dogs. I hope this helps!

Regarding the fleas, there is a product called Frontline spray that can be used on puppies as young as 2 days of age, this is the only product you can use on young puppies so if you are still having a flea problem i would recommend buying it ahead.
