Is my pregnant dog overdue? When should I expect puppies?

Hello. Dogs are pregnant an average of 63 days, so your girl is probably due any time now. If she is acting relatively normal, just give her a little more time. Keep a mental note on how much movement you are feeling in her abdomen & if it begins to diminish, or she acts lethargic, ill, vomits or develops a dark discharge from her vulva without going into labor, see your vet immediately. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sadly we can not estimate how far along Snowy is by pictures. Dogs are only pregnant for 60-63 days. By day 28 you can see puppies on ultrasound and by day 50 you can see them on X-ray. I have personally never seen a dog miscarry from stress. If she doesn't give birth by 70 days from when you got your dog neutered you need to bring her to the Vet to confirm pregnancy or whether she is experiencing a false pregnancy. The gestation.period is typically 62 to 65 days but that is just an average. Some dogs will have them sooner and some will have them later. 70 days however seems a bit long. If she conceived on the 10th day of breeding then today would only be day 60. I would not be overly worried at this time.

Her rectal temperature will be below 100.0 when she is within 24 hrs of her due date. So she has a ways to go still. Her digging seems like early preparation at this point. It is good that you have a whelping box already. : ) There is no way of knowing how long she has until her rectal temperature is below 100.0, so its best to check this daily. I would continue to monitor her. Make sure she is eating, drinking, and using the bathroom. Watch her closely for abdominal contractions. If she starts labor and no puppy has been produced for 20-30 minutes, I would immediately contact your veterinarian for advice. I hope everything goes smoothly and understand that sometimes dogs can have false pregnancies. If you didn't confirm this pregnancy with x-rays or ultrasound, you are only assuming she is pregnant. Hello. You should really consider having Sweety evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure there are no more puppies inside. If there are, your veterinarian should ultrasound them to see if they are showing any signs of fetal distress. This will determine if an emergency C-section is necessary, We can see a bitch take up to 24 hours to deliver, but with such a small litter, & one non-viable pup, I would want to make sure all is well with Sweety.
