My dog is 70 days pregnant. Is she overdue or is her due date wrong?

The average gestation period for dogs is between and 62 and 65 days. That is average; there are going to be dogs that have them a bit sooner or a bit later. I would not be worried about this. It is normal for a pregnant dog (or even a dog with false pregnancy) to handle stuffed toys like they were puppies.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Girttie's belly is huge and she is producing milk she is very likely pregnant. If he belly wasn't big and she was producing milk she could be experiencing a false pregnancy. I would count back to when she was in heat. Dogs are pregnant for about 63 days. They do have a temperature drop most of the time BUT not always. It usually drops below 99 a few hours to 1 day before the start of labor. Dogs can start to product milk up to a week to a few days before labor. It is hard to feel the puppies move. If you want to confirm the number of puppies make a Vet appointment to have an X-ray taken to count the skeletons. Since she is so small it is good to talk to your Vet in case you run in to complications where you may require their help with delivery or a C-section. My guess is that she is due very soon, less than 7 days. I hope this helps!

The rectal temperature usually needs to drop below 99 F. Stage 1 labor should start 10-24 hours after the rectal temperature drops below 99F. That sometimes isn't reliable either. 52 days is soon. Average gestation length is 60-63 days. I think you still have about a week left, give or take a day or 2. Good luck!

There are no rules for that, it does not matter how big the litter is. She well may go over 60 days this time. Good luck with her, hope she will go through the labour ok and have healthy, strong pupps.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Shady. If her appetite has decreased, I suspect that she will have the puppies soon. Dogs can have a variation in gestation periods and she is still within the normal timeframe. If you are concerned though, it is also a good idea to have her seen by her veterinarian. 62 days is around the time of whelping for a dog, so if she is showing signs of early labor it could be related, however if the discharge is an odd color, she seems very ill or in distress, doesn't go into labor, or becomes very weak or lethargic, I would be concerned there is something else ongoing which should be seen by a vet in person ASAP.
