My pregnant dog ate a teething toy. Is she okay if acting normal?

Of course the concern would be a gastrointestinal obstruction from her eating pieces of her toy. At this point, if she has only vomited once, you may continue to monitor her closely to see if it is only going to be an isolated episode. Watch closely for signs associated with an obstruction such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. If observed, have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment at that point. Good luck and have a great day!

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Kimber. There is always the risk of a blockage from the material ingested, but at this point in time, all you can do is be watchful. As long as she is eating well ( & heavily pregnant dogs often do not eat very well ), there is no vomiting, & her bowel movements stay regular over the next 36-48 hours, then she was able to pass the pads. Anything unusual, please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.

The best way to try to prevent it is to provide good supportive care and help the patient recover as quick as possible. If Cookie is ill, it may be hard to tell when she is going into labor. Ideally, the puppies would have their heartrates monitored several times daily by ultrasound to watch for any signs that they are dropping due to distress. She should also be monitored regularly for temperature drops or contractions.

Yes, this sounds like a false pregnancy but if in any doubt i recommend an ultrasound scan to rule out full pregnancy . Most cases will pass over time but if she is very distressed and refuses to ear then hormonal therapy can be used to reverse the condition. It is recommended to neuter before or breed at the next cycle as most likely this will recur
