If a person touches a pine caterpillar, can it spread to their dog?

It appears the most common signs are often related to dogs licking or eating the catepillar. Below is from a 2012 study: "All dogs presented drooling, dysphagia (swallowing difficulty), submandibular lymphadenomegaly (swollen throat lymph nodes), and clinical signs of pain." Symptoms started in some dogs in less then 2 hours. Rapid vet intervention was important within 2 hours as some dogs had injury/damage to the tongue itself, especially if vet care was not sought right away. The "spikes" of the caterpillar may cause irritation in and around the mouth. Monitor for redness, swelling, pawing, licking or drooling. You may see some stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea) if one is ingested. One is likely not enough to cause serious toxicity if eaten.

Woolly Catapillars actually aren't toxic at all. They can cause irritation to the skin of some humans (and presumably dogs) with their hairs. My guess is that the vomiting is unrelated, but if it continues, definitely get Cruz to a vet ASAP for evaluation.

Mites are species specific. This means human scabies mites cannot survive for long or breed on dogs. They may cross back and forth between you and your dog though. He may develop a rash from the mites. If he itches or chews, he could make it worse. Have him examined by your veterinarian to make sure Tripper doesn't need antibiotic treatment or medication to stop the itching.

It is unlikely you will notice any trouble from one lick without ingesting it. Often times it will cause excessive drooling and you can try to wipe out his mouth ir rinse with water if you notice this

There are itchy skin conditions which can be transferred from pets to people - scabies, ringworm and occasionally flea bites can all cause itching in people. I recommend you get Goldie fully checked by your vet and skin scrapings/hair tests performed to rule these out - depending on the findings you may also need to see your own doctor or pharmacist for treatment also. Generally speaking however, recurrent seasonal itching is much more likely to be related to allergies and requires symptomatic treatment for Goldie - these are not contagious to people

Ginger needs to be seen by a veterinarian for a diagnosis on what's going on with her skin, but if she is very itchy and if you have a rash that's similar to hers, I'd definitely recommend you both get that checked right away (you by your doctor, of course :-) ). There is a skin mite called sarcoptes that can infect a dog's skin and cause intense itching, and this mite can also be spread to people. Thankfully, if that's the case, it's easy to treat - but does require a prescription medication from the veterinarian. So, definitely have her checked as soon as possible. Hope this helps!
