Does Petco offer medical grooming for severe matted fur near the skin?

Removing those clumps will be stressful for your kitty. The best would be to make an appointment with your vet for a shave under sedation. There could be sores underneath the mats which should be taken care of as well. Once the mats are gone I suggest you regularly brush and later comb Star to help with his grooming and clumps and mats will not reoccur.

They will be more gentle, it may not look the best, but they will be conscious over her age and fragility. If she can not tolerate it then they can discuss maybe using light sedation. If he isn't grooming as he once did, there may be an underlying medical cause, especially given his age. A physical exam by your veterinarian would be recommended along with blood work to assess major organ function.. If he gets a clean bill of health, you can discuss mild sedation and a clip down with the veterinarian.

They can provide you with a list of services they can provide. Sometimes vaccine clinics only do vaccines and do not provide medicine or see sick animals. Unfortunately I recommend shaving them off. The reason for it is because it can be a very painful process for Coco to have someone detangle her matts. I would also recommend a groomer. Understand that if you do have someone try to get the matts out it can sometimes be expensive due to the length of time it can take. If she has a lot of matts, then it's possible that she will, as they can be quite painful to remove. If this is the case, consider talking to your veterinarian, as sedation can be performed safely in his/her office. Most vets will do a "shave-down" on long-haired cats, although it's likely a professional groomer will do a more artistic job.
