What can I do for my old dog losing vision and getting cloudy eyes?

My dog is quite old, and is losing her vision.How can i help her to cope with the bad eyesight.What can i do during her walks?.What can i do to avoid worsening her eyesight.And is there anything i can do to help it improve again like a homemade solution or something to add in her food?Her eye is getting cloudy.

Depending on what is causing Chacha's vision loss (i.e. Cataracts, changes to the retina or changes to the cornea) there might be some things that you can do to treat the underlying problem but treatments would vary widely based on the diagnosis. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Chacha's eyes to help determine what might be causing the cloudiness. If your veterinarian determines that there is not much to do for the vision loss you can make some changes to help her feel more confident. You should try to avoid moving things around the house so that Chacha can remember where furniture is located and avoid it. You should walk the same route every day. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cataracts in dogs can be caused by diabetes, so if the cataracts are new you should have Lulu checked for this. Otherwise, cataracts cannot be fixed with drops, but would require a surgery to the eye. Also, cloudiness in the eyes isn't always cataracts, but can be something called 'nuclear sclerosis' which causes a cloudy appearance but the animals can still see. No human drops should be applied, and no drops will help with this. There are lots of medications to treat various conditions that occur along with cataracts (uveitis, glaucoma, etc). My 14-year-old dog has cloudy eyes and hearing issues. What tests?

There are some tests a veterinarian can perform to assess hearing and vision, however these are based on observation. You can make a noise behind Brandi to see if she reacts. You can drop something small and soft, like a cotton ball, in front of her to see if she responds. With age lenticular sclerosis, or a cloudiness of the lens is common in dogs, however we always want to make sure cloudiness isn't due to the formation of a cataract which can be associated with diabetes. My older dog has a cloudy eye, but sees fine. Is it just aging?

Lily could have cataracts causing this cloudy pupil, but it could also be due to an eye infection or glaucoma. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Lily seen by a vet immediately, who can diagnose what is causing her cloudy pupil and can discuss treatment options with you.

Why can't my old dog see downward and keeps falling on stairs?

Hi there. Based on your description, I would be concerned that Charlie may be having some trouble with his vision. There are many things that can cause this in older dogs, including cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration. Some of these problems may be treatable once a diagnosis is made, so I would recommend taking Charlie to the vet for an exam when you are able to. He/she can advise you on what treatment options are available, if any, depending on what is found. In the meantime, if Charlie doesn't do very well with stairs anymore, you may need to use a baby gate or other barrier to block his access to the stairway, and carry him up and down when needed.

Is my small dog going blind? Her eyes are cloudy and have mucus.

From your description, Tink may have dry eye that has lead to ulcer formation on the cornea. If not treated, this can become much more severe. This could also be cataracts forming with incidental dry eye that you have noticed as well. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Tink so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
