When can my nursing dog safely resume walks after having puppies?

If the pups are kept warm, there is no problem with her staying away from the puppies for 1/2 hour. If she does not get stressed out by being away from them, you can take her for a walk around the block up to 1/2 hour and later on even longer. It is important that the puppies do not get cold. It is best to take her out after the puppies suckled, and now are sleeping. Make sure they are in a box, so they cannot start crawling around when mom is gone.

Hello, congratulations on your new puppies. Pregnant bitches and those who have just birthed puppies will have a substantially higher calorie demand. Most of the time, we even recommend switching mothers to puppy food (richer in calories) to keep up with there caloric demand. Alternatively, at four weeks you may wean the puppies off from nursing an onto wet/canned puppy food so that mom stops producing milk and her caloric demand returns to normal. You may feed her up to 4-6 times per day while she continues to nurse. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor girl! She is likely worried about leaving her pups. You can try the puppy pads but just make sure the puppies can't get tangled up in them. You can also line the area with towels. She will urinate when she is ready. If you still don't think she has urinated 24 hours after birth, I would contact your vet to ensure she doesn't have an infection. Also, make sure she is eating and drinking okay. After birth, Dams can do peculiar things simce labor can be stressful and they have a lot of hormones and they are trying to care for their puppies. Take care of them constantly and feed them. Mothers usually are quite tired after parturition and you will not be her number one priority anymore. She will spend most of her time with them and she will be reluctant to go out for walks leaving them alone. As they begin to play and explore, her responsibility become more about ensuring their safety and teaching them proper behavior. Up until they are about 6 weeks old, she will give them nearly constant attention.

Congrats on Pudd'n being pregnant! You can do regular exercise and walks with her, but avoid anything strenuous. Follow her lead, do not push her to do too much. Taking them outside would not be recommended. At their age, their immune systems are not strong enough to resist potential infection. They should remain indoors for now. If they are able to wander away from mom, watch them to prevent mischief or injury. They will return when they are hungry. They will likely need to nurse every 6-8 hours.

Within the week she will probably be feeling great and ready to walk and play normally, however, keep it on the easy side until the vet gives the ok.
