Is it safe to give NexGard to my dog on doxycycline for anaplasmosis?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Tyson has Lyme disease he should be put on a good flea and tick medication like Nexgard year round. Plus ticks carry many other diseases besides Lyme disease. Once he is healthy I would also consider vaccinating him for Lyme. Dogs can get re-infected with Lyme disease despite being exposed previously. I would also check urine samples twice yearly for the development of protein in his urine. Protein in the urine can be an indicator of Lyme nephropathy which is a devastating kidney disease from Lyme. Not all dogs get this secondary complication. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Not 100% sure what you mean by an Advantix flea bath. Advantix is a topical flea treatment applied on the skin of dogs. Yes you can use Nexgard along with Advantix. Great multimodal flea/tick strategy. After you have used both oral and topical treatments together for 3 months or so, any environmental problem inside the home should be addressed. That gives enough time for most if not all of the immature stages to mature and be killed by the products. After that time period, you may be able to drop back down to one product each month. Depends on your geographical location and your particular flea problem. Good luck

The combination of the products is known to be safe, so there would be no worry of it causing any adverse effects. I assume the vet meant to give the capstar to quickly kill any adults and to give the nexgard to ensure he doesn't get re-infested from fleas in the environment. This would be an effective way to kill all the fleas and perhaps your vet has other reasons for prescribing the combination (maybe they have experience using one versus the combination). The Nexgaurd alone should work though, so if you really don't want to just give one, then that would be the one would recommend. I would recommend calling the veterinarian and asking if this is OK though. It's also good to treat the environment for fleas, because fleas can reproduce and nest in the environment and continually cause an issue. Hello and thank you for your post! This combination will not likely cause any side effects. Ideally only one should be given at a time but not nexgard and frontline together should be ok. I would, however, monitor your dog for any symptoms such as tremors, seizures, excessive salivation, lethargy and get your dog seen as soon as possible by an emergency vet for treatment. Yes, they do cover the same things, the only difference is a nexgardnwill last for 1 month and a bravecto will last for 3 months. They have different ingredients and a wide safety margin so you will unlikely notice any changes.
