Why is my new puppy so scared and anxious, refusing to eat or move?

Hello. Biscuit may just be a little lacking in socialization, so in essence, he may have a bit of anxiety. With time, kindness & lots of TLC, he should become much more confident. Poor Oakley! It sounds like he needs a little help with socialization and would benefit from seeing a trainer or veterinary behaviorist in person. You can have a trainer come to your house to observe the situation, and help provide some more tailored advice to help get him feeling more comfortable, especially since he is still so terrified after several weeks. In the meantime, continuing to try and get him adjusted to things may help. Try tossing a favorite treat to him every time you go near him, or placing a favorite treat or chew toy outside of his kennel to encourage him to go out and explore a little. If he does come out, gentle praise and even more special treats can help teach him that what he is doing is OK! If he's startled by loud noises or objects, soothing music can help drown out scary sounds, while letting him sniff and approach new items on his own (and then rewarding him when he does) can help encourage him to explore some. That is quite young for a puppy to be very scared of everything. If you just got her a few days ago, it may take time for her to adjust (usually 2-3 weeks) before she fully feels herself. However if she is acting so scared that she won't interact at all, isn't eating, or wanting to do normal puppy things (playing, exploring, etc), it is best to seek out a veterinary behaviorist in your area. Though it is not normal behavior for the average puppy, it may be completely understandable for Alaia, depending on where she came from. If she is from a pet shop, puppy mil, or other abusive situation, it will take her itme to trust you. Always let her make the first move for the time bieng. Feed her from your hand so she begins to associate good things with you (you don'thave to do her whole meal that way!). You seem to be able to judge very well when she will be receptive to you (when she's sleepy, for example), so go by those parameters in your interactions with her. Do not expose her to anything potentially traumatic of possible (like a dog park or a visit with your relatives). This could just be related to his significant anxiety, or it could be early signs of illness, especially parvo virus if he hasn’t been fully vaccinated. You can try offering a bland diet of chicken breast and cooked white rice to encourage him to eat (you can add a little extra broth for hydration). But if he isn’t doing better tomorrow, he needs to see a vet to determine if there is a medical cause for the change.

It is possible she may have a urinary tract issue with frequent urinating, a simple test by your own vet can help check this. Reduced appetite may be due to this, but many pups which are weaned early lack the skills and confidence to eat when not directly supervised. Dislike of being left alone is also very common and can lead to separation anxiety issues if not approached sensitively but consistently by providing comforting toys and treats and slowly increasing the times she is left to build confidence and independence

Poor little thing. It can take some time for dogs that are scared and poorly socialized to adjust. I find that it can be a big help and confidence booster for them to see you interact with another dog. Sometimes they can also relate better to having another dog around. That being said, this should be a calm, easy going and non threatening dog to her. Perhaps an adult sweet friendly dog that is a similar size. It is important for her to eat and drink, so you may have to put those things in her kennel where she feels safe for now. Continue to be patient, talk in a calm and gentle voice and she will eventually learn to trust you. She lacks confidence right now and that does not come overnight, I would consider having her interact with you and another dog if it is the right dog.
