Can neutering stop my male dog from humping our spayed female?

If you are not planning on breeding her then it is best to get her spayed. Dominance behavior and sexual behavior can both be decreased by spaying (removing the source of the hormones). This is not a sexual behavior, but likely a response to stress, anxiety or to assert his dominance. Correct the behavior immediately when you see it. Remove him from the dog with a stern "No" and offer a toy or task to distract him. Praise and reward him when he complies. If he persists, separate him until he settles down. Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) and certain testicular tumors can be prevented by neutering dogs. However, dogs can also live happy and normal lives intact. Behavioral problems such as territorial aggression and marking may be reduced by neutering dogs as well. Once neutered, Dante will not behave more like a female, this is a misconception and does not happen. He may become more calm and not as hyper or aggressive once he is neutered and this is due to the reduction in circulating hormones following removal of the testicles. Humping is not only a sexual behavior but it also a dominance behavior. It is most likely that she is trying to assert her dominance over the other dogs. Not sure what sex the Boston is but either male or female, fixed or not fixed, humping behavior by other dogs is a way of expressing dominance and most times has nothing to do with mating behavior. If it doesn't escalate into a fight, I would advise letting it occur and let the two dogs would out the dominant submissive game that is playing out. Again, I would separate them when you are not there, crating the dogs to prevent soiling of the rooms if you have to. Otherwise seek advice from your veterinarian. They may want to see both dogs and advise you from there. Older dogs can undergo neutering and do need blood work before considering that option. But remember even sterilized dogs will exhibit humping behavior to determine the order of the pack. I hope this helps and good luck

Hello, by castrating Leo he will no longer produce testosterone which is the hormone that stimulates sexual activity. Rarely, some dogs will still have mounting behaviors despite being neutered. You may also consider spaying your female to then likely resolve all of these behaviors. Hope this helps and best of luck

Neutering him may help curb this behavior. The pain may be due to friction and trauma. I would stop him as soon as he starts to hump. I hope this helps!
