How to help my neglected rescue dog with multiple health issues?

She is cuter cute and thank you for adopted a puppy that sounds like really needed your help! I think getting her up to date on vaccines and checking her hesrtworm status is a good start. Eventually I would have her fecal checked to ensure she doesn’t have any worms and also have a vet do an exam on her. The vet will be able to determine that she is otherwise healthy and also be able to tell you whether or not she needs her teeth cleaned. Good dental health is important because it helps to increase their lifespan. If left untreated long term, the bacteria from the mouth can cause problems to her heart, liver and kidneys. Kidney disease is best managed with a prescription diet as well as medications to help manage the side effects including antacids, calcitriol and sometimes blood pressure medications. All of these things would require a prescription from a veterinarian. If you feel she has conjunctivitis you can try keeping her eyes clean with a warm wet washcloth and potentially using a saline eye wash to rinse them out. If you feel her eyes are painful or if the condition is worsening she should be seen by a veterinarian.

The absolute first step would be to take them to a vet to be examined for any health issues. Then the vet will be able to get them back on track with routine health care such as working, parasite treatments and vaccinations. You should feed them the best quality dog food you can afford, royal canin and hill's being very good. You may have to take time to retrain them depending how they have been treated. If they have trust issues it may be best to see an animal behaviourist.

1) I highly recommend a vet checkup to rule out issues such as parasites or a GI problem/allergy that could be preventing her weight gain. Your vet can also perform a body condition score to see if she is at a healthy weight for her size and help monitor any changes needed. 2) Since she is having a lot of anxiety and having trouble with basic obedience, speaking with a trainer or veterinary behaviorist in person is your best option. They can work with you one-on-one to tailor a plan to help reduce your pup's anxiety, and a veterinary behaviorist can also utilize medication as needed in conjunction with a training plan. Training techniques such as BAT (Behavioral Adjustment Training) are great for helping desensitize dogs to the triggers that cause anxiety. This can also help with her fear toward you or other people as well. 3) Once she has settled in a bit and the anxiety is under control, a basic obedience class together may help so that you can learn to better communicate with each other in a safe, positive manner. She does seem to have a lot of scarring around her neck. My guess would be from fighting. The wound with the hole in it looks to be like it was (or is) from a cuterebra (skin parasite). Without examining her myself I don't know that for sure but that is what it looks like. The lethargy, reduced appetite, and pale gums could be due to anemia. Anemia occurs when there is a loss or destruction of a large amount of red blood cells, which can be caused by internal or external bleeding. The excessive shedding could be caused by fleas, mites, or allergies. A heavy flea infestation could also cause anemia. Hesitancy to jump could be caused by hip, joint, or spinal pain. All of these symptoms do require an immediate vet visit, and I can give you a number of resources that hopefully will help you afford a vet. Hello there! While Luna's weight loss and poor coat may be from malnutrition, the heavy breathing and joint pain makes me concerned about other potential medical issues that she may be facing. First, be sure that she was on proper heartworm and flea/tick preventative while she was on the farm. Dogs that spend lots of time outdoors will come into contact with mosquitoes and parasites, which could explain some of her symptoms, should she have contracted a vector-borne disease like heartworms, lyme disease, or rickettsial infections (rocky mountain spotted fever and ehrlichiosis). The symptoms Luna is exhibiting could be indicative of any or all of these diseases. I also worry about intestinal parasites potentially stealing some of her nutrition, which can cause weight loss and a poor hair coat. All of these disease processes can be ruled out at the vet's office. A small blood test can check for heartworms and tick-borne diseases, and a stool sample can check for intestinal parasites.
