My miniature pig has an itchy rash. Can it spread to my dog's rash?

Typically, unless your piggy comes to you with mange you are unlikely to encounter an infection. This is not true however if your pig is going to be in contact with several other pigs on any sort of regular basis, particularly those of unknown health status. Should your pig become afflicted with this, it is relatively easy to address. The best way is with two injections of ivermectin separated by two weeks. There are two common mites in pigs. The sarcoptic mange mite can be passed between dogs, pigs, and humans. The demodectic mite can not be passed to dogs as it is species specific. Hope this answers your questions and concerns.

It could be skin mites (mange), ringworm or any number of other skin issues. I cannot diagnose him just by looking at a photo. I suggest you have Oliver to the vet for an exam. Some of these skin diseases can be contagious to humans.

Ginger needs to be seen by a veterinarian for a diagnosis on what's going on with her skin, but if she is very itchy and if you have a rash that's similar to hers, I'd definitely recommend you both get that checked right away (you by your doctor, of course :-) ). There is a skin mite called sarcoptes that can infect a dog's skin and cause intense itching, and this mite can also be spread to people. Thankfully, if that's the case, it's easy to treat - but does require a prescription medication from the veterinarian. So, definitely have her checked as soon as possible. Hope this helps!

Without seeing and palpating the lump it is not possible to give you an idea about what this is. This could ba arthritis, an abscessed joint or other abscess or one of many other types of abcesses. Instead of putting ointment or similar medications on it without really knowing what the problem is, I would take her to a veterinarian for an exam. She may need oral prescription antibiotics and/or antiinflammatories and the lesion may need to be opened and flushed.

I suggest you apply this wound spray 3-4 times per day. If that doesn't help within a few days then he needs to see a vet. Also, monitor him closely to be sure he is urinating OK. Pustules and a foul odor are a sign of infection, which could have been caused by fleas, allergies, mange, ringworm, heat rash, or excessive skin folds. Depending on the cause of the infection and the bacteria produced, it is possibly contagious. I recommend that Flippy see a vet as soon as possible. While you are waiting to go to the vet, you can use a calming, antibacterial pet shampoo like Dechra MalAcetic Ultra Shampoo, and make sure to dry gently but thoroughly in any skin folds.

Allergies commonly appear at age 2-4 but can develope at any time. If that is the case, they are usually environmental but if you’ve switched food or added a new treat in the last few weeks, that could be a cause too. Finally, new shampoo, change in laundry soap, etc can also cause this to flare up. Treatment is topical (including medicated shampoo) or oral antibiotics and addressing underlying allergies of needed. It is also possible that these spots are mites or ringworm, insect bites, or other. Try Benedryl (see link below) and a medicated shampoo like Duoxo Calm first if you like. Bathe twice weekly during a flare up, then every 1-2 weeks for maintenance.
