My medium dog likes small breed food. Is it safe for him to eat it?

If it is your only option, I think you are fine feeding the Maxi adult food. I am not as concerned with large breed vs medium breed vs small breed in adult dogs as I am in puppies. The biggest difference in these adult diets are the size of the kibble (the bigger the better, in my opinion!) and possibly the fat content. You may need to adjust how much you are feeding Heisenberg (use the guidelines on the bag) and his body condition.

I would not recommend pupy food for adult dogs unless absolutely no alternative is available. Puppy formulas tend to be higher in minerals and proteins for growth and are richer than recommended for regular maintenance diets

Yes, it is fine to feed Kiba a food that is larger kibble! In fact, feeding larger kibble makes dogs chew a little more, which is great for preventing tartar build up on their teeth. Just watch Kiba the first few times that you feed it to make sure that he is chewing well and doesn't seem to have any choking from swallowing large pieces.

This is a great question about Chloe. I do not believe it is necessary for her to be on a "small bites" food. As long as she is on a good, well balance food then a little large kibble is perfectly okay. Natural Balance LID is a great diet and as long as she is willing to eat the regular sized kibbles, then go for it! (p.s. I love cavaliers!)

It's fine to feed Gizmo the large breed puppy food since it's designed for puppies (which should be fed up until one year of age). The large breed part just refers to the size of the dog. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for your post! The size of kibble may make it easier for a smaller dog to eat if the kibble bites are smaller. Sometimes, depending on the dog and Its preference for texture, some small dogs prefer large bites over small bites and some dogs prefer small bites over large bite. That's a great way to plan ahead! As a Havanese, Kiba could eat either of the diets you mentioned with no adverse consequences. However, if his puppy food is lamb based, I would be more inclined to try the small breed lamb based diet so as not to change protein sources. I always recommend starting with a small bag of the new food in the chance that Kiba either won't eat it or develops stomach upset from the new diet. Anytime you change to a new diet, please do so by gradually mixing the foods together over 5-7 days.
