My dog had heat 7 weeks ago, but male dog still humping. Why?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 27 days old | 12 lbs

My dog has recently been showing symptoms of heat. My male dog keeps following her around and trying to hump her (we don’t let him). But here’s the thing. She had her heat 7 weeks ago. Is it possible she could’ve provoked her own heat again ?? Or what does this mean ??

It is highly unlikely this is a true heat unless the first one was very short (3-5days; often referred to as a split heat). I would be concerned she may have an infection which the male is confused by. A full vet check and possibly a sample of the fluid being passed to be examined under a microscope would be recommended in order to determine exactly what is going on and to treat appropriately
