How to keep my thin-coated dogs warm in cold weather and indoors?

I would definitely provide a heat source for them in the winter, especially if it is going to hit freezing temperatures. I worry about hypothermia if there is no heat source. I would also provide an insulated area for them. Small dog houses can be built quite easily and still be low cost. There are many templates online of how to build a dog house with insulation. Dog beds, blankets and another dog to keep warm with would help as well. If the temperature are too low outside, it is not advisable to keep them outdoors as this could result in hypothermia and even lead to death. I hope this helps! I think it is still fair to try to walk him outside if using a sweater or coat to keep him warm. I would avoid walking him outside when it is raining as dogs can have a hard time regulating their temperature specially when very young. You can get a sweater for him online or at your local pet store. You can use treats to encourage him to walk outside. Good luck and have a good night!

This is wonderful of you to do for the homeless. I would buy your dog a coat to wear when it's cold. You can get one at a pet store. Also bring plenty of blankets for him, and a soft dog bed so he does not sleep on the hard ground.

You can move everyone indoors and confine her and the litter to a small, warm room or you can insulate the dog house and protect it from the elements. I would hesitate to recommend placing a heat source for fear of fire or burns.

Great question! I would keep your puppy indoors in cold nights. Young puppies are not able to regulate their body temperature, and it would be best to keep it indoors where it is warmer. You can keep the puppy in a crate indoors to keep it from getting into things and having accidents in the home.

Batman is cute!!!! I would recommend a coat for sure when he goes outside. If he is going outside for longer then 10 minutes, I would also recommend boots (if he will wear them). These little ones lose body heat quickly. Thank you for using Pet Coach!

I would definitely consider getting him a sweater. He can’t insulate himself normally like a healthier dog would be able to. Poor guy. If you can keep the temperate around 70 degrees. Best of luck with Dexter and managing his kidney disease. Take care.
