How to introduce a new female puppy to my male German Shepherd?

If she gets along with other dogs then I think an adult dog would be fine. But if she is a threatened by bigger dogs she may do better starting with a puppy. I would allow them to sniff esch other through a barrier like a crate or a baby gate. I would only allow them to be with each other under supervision for awhile until you know that they will be okay together. I would not feed them, give them any bones, or any any toys that she may be territorial over! Most dogs do great! Good luck!

With any two dogs, it's never possible to completely predict whether or not they will get along - they all have different personalities, just like people. But in my experience, I have not found GSDs to have any more problems with multiple dogs in a household than any other breed - indeed, I have several clients with multiple GSDs who all get along fine. They should be fine together, of course it is highly recommended to have them both neutered to avoid any aggressive tendencies, you should also introduce the puppy under your supervision only for a long time until you are sure your dog can be trusted.

I always think it is better to two dogs than one. I believe they tend to adjust better and do better with training and socializing. As far as whether or not you can keep two unaltered male dogs, absolutely. However, there will definitely be an increased chance for fighting than if they were both neutered. Training and socialization will be of utmost importance at an early age if this is your plan. Hope this helps.

Most dogs do well with a companion in the home. It will take some initial training on your part to get Bruno and a new puppy used to each other. I would recommend not leaving the new pup alone with the older dog until they are used to each other. It is also important to make sure the older dog still gets plenty of attention and exercise when the new puppy comes along. Good luck!

Bruno won't be fully mature physically and emotionally until he is at least 18 months to two years of age. That's because large breed dogs mature slower than the smaller breeds of dogs. But that doesn't mean you can't get a puppy now, and I would recommend having Bruno neutered before getting another dog. Unneutered dogs can and do become very territorial and aggressive when intact dogs enter their home, and that can cause a lot of problems for you to deal with daily. In addition, if you get a female, this can lead to unwanted puppies when she goes into heat. GSDs are a very active breed, and if you have the time and energy to give both dogs all the exercise, attention, and training they need, there is no reason why you can't get another GSD.

Two males, properly introduced and socialized, can certainly live together. It is when an intact female is introduced that you may have problems or behavioral issues. Any dog of any breed you chose will need to be gradually introduced to Bruno to avoid confrontation.
