Why does my 9-week-old husky puppy have diarrhea? Is it diet or worms?

Diarrhea and reduced appetite could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Parvovirus is also a possibility, particularly in a dog as young as Rocky, as you mentioned he is too young to have had all his boosters yet. Please make an appointment to have Rocky seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, as diarrhea can easily lead to dehydration in such a young pup, and can be very dangerous if left untreated. In the mean time, if he is not eating well, you can try boiling boneless skinless chicken in water, shredding the chicken, and feeding her small amounts of the resulting chicken broth and cooked chicken with boiled plain white rice once it has cooled. It is important that puppies are on a good quality puppy food in order to support their growth and development. All new foods can cause some diarrhoea and it helps to introduce new foods over a few days as well as adding probiotics to help the bowel. If he is currently tolerating wet food best then a puppy wet formula would be recommended. Ensure also he is up to date with deworming treatments as intestinal worms can contribute to such signs also

No, it's normal to have diarrhea for this length of time in a puppy, and while it could be caused by the change in food, he could have something else causing it such as intestinal worms, a GI illness, or a foreign body. I would take Marshall into the vet first thing in the morning. Given the length of time he has had it, he definitely needs to see a vet right away. With a puppy that young diarrhea could also be caused by G.I. parasites such as roundworms as well as any dietary changes which is common when they go to a new home. Alternatively diarrhea in puppies could be an early sign of parvovirus. If the diarrhea continues, becomes bloody, or Moose stops eating he should go to the veterinarian for exam.

Rocky needs to be eating a bland diet to help stop the diarrhea. You can purchase food for sensitive stomachs or feed boiled chicken and rice for a few days. Since he’s a small, young dog I recommend a fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites, and getting medication from your veterinarian to stop the diarrhea. I'm sorry Zeus isn't feeling well at the moment! A dry nose isn't a sign of illness in dogs, as their nose can go from wet to dry just by lying in the sun or near a heat source. I'm wondering if the deworming treatment he received three weeks ago was one in response to him having worms or if it was part of his regular program. The reason why is that if he recently had worms, it will take at least two deworming treatments to kill all the worms, and that could by why he's having diarrhea now. If it was his first deforming treatment in a while, then I would give him another deworming treatment now. The reason why it takes at least two treatments to kill all the worms in a dog is because there will be eggs present from the adult worms at the time of the first deworming treatment. It takes a few weeks for them to hatch, and the deworming treatment kills adults only; therefore, the second treatment kills the adults who hadn't hatched at the time of the first deworming. If Zeus is on a regular deworming schedule, then his diarrhea could be due to GI illness or eating something rotten. Given that he is eating and drinking normally, you can try a home remedy to see if that helps before having to take him into the vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
