My dog died from illness. Can humans get sick from dog diseases?

I am sorry to hear that your cat passed away so suddenly. However, to answer your question, it depends on the disease/illness your cat had. Please repost with the particular disease that your previous cat had so that we can give you a complete answer to your question. However, generally speaking there are not many diseases that can transfer from cat to dog that are life-threatening.

There are a few rare cases of dogs catching the flu from their humans, but generally the answer is no. I would recommend having a family member take him to his vet for a check up to see what's going on.

Hello, thank you for your question about Luna. Yes, dogs do carry other diseases/organisms that can be transmitted to humans. Some intestinal parasites that dogs are susceptible too can also lead to sickness in humans. Additionally, other infectious organisms such as leptospirosis can be transmitted to humans. There are other contagious conditions, but the above mentioned are some of the more common. It is always key to practice good hygeine and hand washing while around animals to prevent transmission of any organisms. It sounds like Ruger may be ill based on the clinical signs you are describing, so I highly recommend contacting your veterinarian and seeing when he/she can have him seen. Your veterinarian may recommend bloodwork or imaging such as x-rays to look for a reason for him to be sick and vomiting. In the meantime, you can offer him a highly digestible, bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat. I hope this is helpful!

I am sorry to hear that everyone has been so sick! The one parasite that can transfer between species that produces symptoms you describe is something called giardia. You may consider asking your physician to test you for it. Other possibilities include salmonella, Cryptosporidium, and campylobacter. When testing my patients for these more rare diseases I use a test through idexx called a GI fast panel PCR. You may Consider asking your veterinarian to run this test. Using proper hygiene when handling pets is important as well as making sure they are not eating any forms of raw diet that can transmit disease. Best of luck and I hope you improve soon. Hello. It is very unlikely that a 9-year-old dog can contract Parvo. But there is any number of conditions & diseases that can cause severe gastrointestinal upsets. I can not tell you if this is a fatal situation or not, all I can say is you need to stay in close communication with your veterinarian, reporting any unusual signs, or indications that your pet is not healing or doing well.
