Why are my Great Dane puppy's legs not straight? Is it normal?

Hello. It is impossible to try & diagnose Bonnie's problems without a full exam. You see, some very large breed puppies can have issues with their bones & joints, something similar to growing pains in children. She may also have early issues with hip or even elbow dysplasia. She should be evaluated at your earliest convenience so that the proper diagnosis can be made. This sounds like a growth deformity, xrays would help to define exactly what is going on. Mineral, especially calcium and phosphorus imbalances can have a major influence at this age - converting his diet completely to a large breed puppy food may help to encourage optimal bone formation

She is so cute! This is likely just a normal malformation. I would make sure she is getting good nutrition and this make correct itself. If it doesn't, she will likely have a normal life and not have issues with this. If she is having trouble walking, I would have your vet take a look at her to see what options there are for correcting this. I hope this helps !

This is very concerning. Bamboo likely has a lot of pain in that leg. Since she is a Great Dane there is a very large danger of her having osteosarcoma. Of course she could also just have sprained or hurt her leg, however I would definitely take her to your veterinarian tomorrow for an exam and x-rays. Refusing food and water is also a sign of great pain.

I suspect this is a congenital abnormality. I recommend to get Ares examined by the veterinarian. With puppies, sometimes there are treatments available since they are still developing but sometimes there are not any options. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Yes, having the narrow based stance in the rear legs and some instability is something I would be concerned about. German Shepard Dogs can have hip dysplasia and lumbo sacral problems. If the parents were OFA certified to have good hips then Nova may just be in a clumsy growing phase. Nova is too young to have definitive X-rays to diagnose hip dysplasia. A preliminary hip X-rays can be done at six months, usually when the dog is spayed as they need to be anesthetized to get good hip radiographs. When she is asleep they can also feel the hip to see if the joint is tight or has laxity. Many dogs can live a normal life with hip dysplasia if they are kept fit, lean and do not do excessive jumping or rough housing. Leash walking and obedience training is good exercise as it helps her control her legs and leg movement rather than just letting her run around and play all the time. If the instability and narrow rear legs continue as she grows you may want to go see an orthopedic specialist to get a second opinion and diagnosis. Nothing seems abnormal based on this pictures but that does not replace a good exam. If you are worried about confirmation or a bone problem then she needs to see a vet. They can actually move her legs evaluate the joints and bones to make sure there are no problems. If indicated they can even do an X-ray although she is too youn for hip dysplasia to show up
