Is grape seed extract in dog dental gel safe for my dog's liver?

Hello, sorry to hear about Marshall. The biggest ingredient of concern is the grape seed oil. Grapes are known toxins to dogs, causing kidney disease. I am unsure if the grape seed oil could cause the same toxicity as the whole grape, since the exact mechanism by which grapes cause kidney disease is not fully understood. Therefore, Marshall should have his kidney values monitored by your veterinarian for the next 72 hours as a precautionary step. It’s likely that the oils could have caused him some nausea, and if he ingested a large amount of this then he could have a bit of an upset stomach. Alternatively, he could have been drooling for some other benign reason and perhaps there is nothing wrong with him. Monitor for any vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, or diarrhea and have him seen by a veterinarian if you note any. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Royal canin is one of the most effective prescription diets for lver conditions and if he is doing well I would be slow to change away from it unless you knew the underlying condition had been resolved. Hills l/d is a similar diet which you could also look at. If dental health is an issue despite regular brushing then a full dental exam and cleaning would be recommended as well as an assessment for any complicating factors such as retained puppy teeth or poor dental alignment

Hello, It does appear that Chhutki has tartar and plaque accumulation on her teeth. It's unfortunate she cannot have an anesthetic dental cleaning due to her heart disease. I do not know of parabens causing any health problems in dogs. I believe its best to use the dentagel oil as your vet prescribed. I think this will be the most effective possible treatment in her case. Unfortunately, there is no natural remedy to dental disease. The smell is from the tartar and bacterial growth in the mouth. Most dog toothpastes are made to be safe to ingest because we just can’t trust a dog not to swallow the toothpastes! Unless the label specifically says not to ingest the toothpaste I don’t think there is a concern with what you are doing, though without the action of brushing the teeth you won’t get the full effect of the toothpaste, but it sounds like brushing just might not work out for Gracie! Not all dogs tolerate it. You could try a different canine toothpaste just in case she prefers another. I recommend the CET brand toothpaste for dogs. Best of luck!

Generally most dental sticks including greenies are not recommended for dogs with IBD. the only one i can recommend is Virbac C.E.T. VeggieDent Chews, it's hypoallergenic and Jemma night do better on those.

Hello. I see no problems with any of the ingredients except for the grape juice powder. Grapes, in any form, can be toxic to dogs, so I would leave this out. But everything else should be fine for either a horse or a dog. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach

Hi there. Based on the ingredient list for this product, I'm not seeing anything that I would expect to cause either liver disease or cancer in dogs. I have also never heard of any case reports of this happening. So I wouldn't have any particular concerns about this - I think it's likely that the sources you're seeing for this are not credible. :)
