Can I get my puppy back after signing him over to the vet?

I don’t think it’s an abnormal reaction from a breeder. I agree that it isn’t medically founded. The puppy should be safe in a new house and being current on its puppy vaccines. Unfortunately if you want THIS puppy you will have to go along with what the breeder wants. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

Some shelters will have an affiliation program with nearby veterinary clinics where the clinic will provide you with a free examination to establish yourself there. I would ask the shelters if they have such a program. When going to the veterinarian, I would ensure that you are looking at preventative care (heartworm and flea / tick prevention). The shelter should have most vaccinations up to date but if it is a puppy, you may have to repeat several vaccination rounds. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Hi and thanks for your post. The puppy needs to be with its mother until 8 weeks of age so perhaps this is why the puppy is still with the mother at this time. I'm not sure I follow the entire story but if the dog was paid for by you and you have documentation to state the payment and documentation to state you are now the legal owner, you may inquire as to when you may pick up the puppy. This is usually when the puppy is 8 weeks of age. If you have the dog warden's contact, you may try contacting them if the individual you bought the puppy from cannot be reached. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Boo! I am sorry that Boo is so sick! I would assume that your Vet took Boo to surgery because they felt that she had a blockage. We always weigh the pros and cons of doing an exploratory surgery and never do it unless the evidence is strong. Sometimes we are between a rock and hard place because the animal is not improving and it is best to look and be sure that the X-rays and barium series (dye) didn't miss anything. No imaging modality is perfect. The only way to know 100% for sure there is nothing stuck is to go look. I ALWAYS warn owners, despite clear evidence, that we could go in and find nothing. It happens all the time. Personally I'd rather find nothing that have animal pass away because of an intestinal perforation from a foreign body that I could have fixed. I am very sorry that the outcome wasn't what you hoped for but I would rest assured your Vet is doing what they believe is in the best interest of Boo. In most cases, you'll need owner permission in order for records to be transferred over, so while you can contact the vet, you may not be able to obtain full records. That said, they may at least be able to confirm neuter/vaccine status for you so you can let your vet know. If you can't get any records, you can also have your current vet perform a titer test to see where Wooly's immunity levels are, and then booster vaccines from there.

It's difficult for me to say how much longer it will be until Beau is home without knowing his diagnosis. It is definitely great that he is eating, but it is likely that he is no longer vomiting because he is on anti-nausea medication. His discharge from the hospital depends on his overall condition, as well as certain factors as his blood work normalizing and hydration. Your vet will be able to give you a more accurate prognosis, but in my practice, I typically like to see that blood work is returning to normal and that the dog is fully hydrated and eating on his own before being discharged.

Yes this is very important when transferring doctors. Your vet can either print the records for you to pick up or they can email them to your new clinic. Just ask the vetco you will be using which they prefer. That way the new doctor will know what to recommend for your pet at the visit.
