My German Shepherd puppy has a hairless patch near ears. Is it normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | 2 months and 10 days old | 12 lbs

Hi there! I recently got a German Shepherd puppy a few weeks ago. She is now 11 weeks old and i noticed she has small patch right in front of her ears that has no fur. It doesn't seem to look irritated and she doesn't really scratch at it. What could this be?

This is likely a pysiological alopecia, especially if it is in front of both ears and about the same size. If the are a expands, then there is a skin problem that needs to be investigated by your vet. However, if the skin looks healthy, and the area stays the same, then there is nothing to worry about. If Mila tries to scratch the area, then you should have her ears checked by the vet for an infection or mites.
