My 1.5-year-old German Shepherd has floppy ears. Is he a mix?

Hello. Teddy is a very handsome boy. He does look like a German Shepherd, but it is possible he has a very small amount of another breed in him. It is also possible that he had some issues when he was a puppy that affected the cartilage in his ears, & this is what is preventing them from standing erect. From the little I see, Teddy does look purebred. His ears may come up later, or not at all. Keep in mind, though, that there is such a thing as a prepotent stud, which means that the father passes just about all of his traits to his puppies. If that's the case here, the father may be a purebred German Shepherd Dog, and the mom a GSD mix or something else. It would help to have profile photos of Teddy standing.

Boxen is so cute! I don't see any German Shepherd in him in the pictures. He has that feathering on his back legs like you would see with a Golden Retriever, but it looks like a Lab face. I can't say for certain what his breeds are, but he is adorable!

My 7-week German Shepherd puppy is thin, ears down. Purebred?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oscar. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. His fluffy hair coat makes it difficult to assess his weight from a picture. He will be examined, dewormed and started on his vaccines and likely heartworm prevention as well. His weight and diet can be discussed as well. I would not expect his ears to stand up for several weeks yet. I hope this information helps!

My GSD puppy's ear is floppy. Will biting damage her cartilage?

As much as you can keep the other dog from chewing on her ears, do so, but it's not the end of the world. Their ears will go up and down as they're teething and growing, so they may tip up and down for a couple months more until they stand for good. Congratulations on your new baby, she's absolutely beautiful!

Why are my 2-month-old German Shepherd puppy's ears still floppy?

The ears will not have developed completely before the age of approximately 18 months. Until then they will stand up and flop many times. At the age of 2 months ears of a German Shepherd dog naturally flop, ie do not stand up. Your dog is normal and his ears should start to stand up in a few months.
