Is a front hook harness okay for my puppy and will it cause rubbing?

This looks like a nylon harness so I would be surprised if he was allergic to the material. It is possible however that it rubs Lucky in a way that makes him uncomfortable. You might want to try a harness with more padding like this:

I love the Ruffwear harnesses. They are well constructed and allow full shoulder mobility while giving good support. I would contact them directly about the sizing. They are quite adjustable so I would go with the size that should fit her as an adult and hopefully you can adjust it smaller to fit now. Since the skin does not look inflamed or injured, it is quite possible that the hair was rubbed off by the harness. Monitor the area and if it starts to expand, ooze or turns red or painful, have a veterinarian examine it. You may also want to wrap the harness with some soft cloth or fur to hopefully stop rubbing.

Quite honestly it all depends upon the shape of your dog. Some harnesses tend to fit longer dogs vs stouter dog vs deep chested vs narrow shaped dogs. I would recommend bring your dog to the pet store and having her try on several different varieties to see which fits most comfortably. Most importantly, ask yourself if this harness provides proper support and will not fall off when being used for walking.

I would not leave it on her all the time, especially if Mila gets annoyed with it. That's because it is more restrictive than a collar, and it can chafe in sensitive areas, such as under her arms. I would make sure she does have a collar on at all times with an ID tag.

It would definitely be a good idea to try a front clip harness like a Gentle Leader. The pressure across the chest can help you maintain better control. I would advise putting the antibiotic ointment on once or twice daily and putting a T shirt on Precious so that she can’t lick the ointment off (or lick at the wound, which delays healing). You can use a rubber band or hair tie to remove the slack from her waist area if you want. Best of luck to you and Precious!
