How can I find my dog's mixed breed without a vet visit?

Dog DNA test kits are available if you want to know for sure. She could be a combination of more than two breeds. You take a cheek swab and mail it to a laboratory. It is difficult to say since she is young but a mix including a herding breed would be a guess. You can purchase a canine DNA kit online or in some pet stores. Most are easy and require a simple cheek swab to determine breed(s). More comprehensive (and expensive) DNA tests can be submitted by your veterinarian after a blood sample is drawn.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Jack is super cute! You can probably ask 10 vets and you'll get 10 different answers. He isn't a pure bred dog and there are likely many breeds that contributed to how Jack looks. He likely has Chow (though his tongue isn't pigmented) or Samoyed to get that type of tail. The rest is likely a retriever or shepherd mix. For fun you can do DNA test, they aren't very accurate but it might be entertaining at least. Hello. It is sometimes pretty difficult to try & obtain information from a previous owner, so it is best just to start fresh with everything. A good physical exam, heartworm test, fecal exam & update all the vaccinations, even if some of these were previously done. Make sure they scan Max for a microchip in case this was done by his previous owners. As to his breed, you can always pick up one of the Witness canine DNA kits online or at the bigger pet retailers & see what it comes back as. Dax appears to have Mastiff in him, though he appears to possibly be a mixture of a few breeds. He has very large paws So I would expect him to be over 30lbs full grown. There are genetic tests which veterinarians can run to determine the exact breeds your dog is.
