Why can I feel my Doberman's armpit nodes? Is it normal or concerning?

An enlarged lymph node will feel firmer than a lipoma. It won't be as "smooth" and uniform. It may have some texture (think 'chewed bubble gum'). Unfortunately, there is no definitive way to find out except by aspirating it or having a biopsy performed by your veterinarian.

These lymph nodes are generally easy to feel on any dog. They are generally about the size of a small lima bean but this does vary from pet to pet. Depending on where the "knots" are, it is possible it is normal anatomy, however there could be something else going on. You may be feeling Cruz's lymph nodes if the "knots" you are feeling are behind the knees. Normally lymph nodes are small and not readily felt by owners, so it is very possible if you are able to feel them easily, that he needs to be checked out. Enlarged lymph nodes can be a nonspecific sign of infection or inflammation and should be checked out by your vet. Cruz is very young and so fatty lumps like lipomas, which are benign fatty tumors, are less likely. I would recommend having him checked out by your vet to see if these areas need to be investigated further or not.

These could be lipomas, or fatty growths, that wouldn't necessarily require any treatment and can be common in older dogs. It's also possible that these are tumors. I would recommend having your vet examine Bella - they might recommend testing the lumps using a needle to determine what they are.

Are you talking about the veins on the side of his legs? Those appear normal for his breed and its nothing to worry about. The line on his left side along his ribs is harder to tell what is going on there. There's not a vein, per se, that would be there to be prominent normally. Does the skin appear normal in this line? It depends on what you mean by "lumps." Lumps and bumps are very common in dogs and can be in the skin itself, sometimes with hair, sometimes without, or under the skin (the skin slides over the lump or you can move the lump under the skin). Lumps can be an infection like an abscess or a granuloma, or they can be a tumor. Lumps that are tumors can be benign (such as a fatty tumor) or malignant (such as a squamous cell carcinoma). The can occur literally anywhere in the body, and there is no one area o the body where they are more common. They can feel firm or soft depending on what their cause is. Most people find lumps or bumps just while petting their dog in day to day life. While its a great idea to make a point once a. month or so to run your hand over your dog to look for anything worrisome, theres no need to be too alarmed or concerned when you are just "on the lookout." This is most of the time differentiated with a test called a fine needle aspirate which is easy, cheap and pain-free. Sometimes, a biopsy is required for a diagnosis. Have Panzer evaluated by your veterinarian to have this test performed to try to sort out what the diagnosis is so that the best course of action can be determined.
