Why can I feel my Doberman's armpit nodes? Is it normal or concerning?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Why do I read online that normal axillary lymph nodes are not palpable? I have a large Doberman and I can feel two red bean sized node on each side of her armpit, where the axillary nodes should be located. Yet so many online sites I read say they shouldn’t be palpable unless enlarged. So confused here

In some dogs you can feel them and others you can't. It depends on the size of the dog and body conformation. In a less streamlined dog, you may not be able to feel them.
I also have a Doberman and I can feel all his peripheral lymph nodes.
You can't rule out a small lipoma or maybe simply feeling skin.
