How much and how often should I feed my 6-week-old chihuahua puppy?

A hard puppy food would be good for Gracie, so I would still feed her the hard food, but feed her in a separate room from the cat. She should be fed three times a day, morning, noon, and evening. Take the daily recommended amount on the bag and divide into three equal portions. Once she is six months old, she should be fed twice a day (morning and evening). Canned food isn't as good for her teeth, and since it has a higher moisture content, it will take more to get her needed daily calories and will cost you more in food. The mom is probably weaning Trixie and so it is just time to start food! You can start mixing puppy food with milk replacer at 4 weeks, and after a week or so, Trixie should be on just puppy food and water. The puppy food will have feeding guidelines on the label, but generally keeping it available and letting her decide when to eat is recommended.

While young small breed dogs can develop toy breed hypoglycemia, it would be rare for an adult dog to have this problem and require frequent meals. I think twice a day is probably just fine for both dogs as long as they don’t have any other medical problems.

I recommend a small breed diet and to stick with one of the higher quality brands. I like Royal Canin because the diets have high quality, easy to digest protein and contain an excellent fiber blend. Most pets on this diet will have great stool quality and minimal amounts of stool because there's not a lot of filler. They actually carry a line for Chihuahuas. I also like Purina Pro Plan. Coco should eat twice a day and should eat puppy food until he is 1 year old. I hope this helps.
