How much and how often to feed a 5-week-old Miniature Schnauzer puppy?

I'd like to know the amount of puppy dry food ( hills science diet) mixed with water I should give to a miniature schnauzer at 5 weeks old. She weighs 785gr. And how many times per day.

Irati should eat about 1/3-1/2 cup of Science Diet puppy food per day mixed with some water, divided into smaller meals. Since she is still quite young and small, I generally recommend feeding 4-5 times per day. I'm working under the assumption that she is no longer with her mother, and as such is not nursing. If she is still nursing from her mom, she will not need quite as much food. As a future reference, following the chart on the bag of puppy food as Irati grows will be helpful, as you will frequently need to adjust the volume of kibble that she is eating. She should continue eating puppy food until she is 1 year old, after which time she can be transitioned to an adult dog food. Any time you make a chance in her diet, be sure to do so gradually over 5-7 days. I hope this helps!

Personally I think you should be feeding Ellie large breed puppy food. If the breeder thinks the puppy should be eating something equivalent to it's mothers milk it shouldn't have been removed from it's mother until it was fully weaned. If you want to do what the breeder says don't do it for long and slowly mix her solution with canned puppy food in the next 1-2 weeks. By 7 weeks of age she should be only eating a high quality commercial large breed puppy food. When you feed your dog depends on when you get up and go to bed. Most people feed them when they get up in the morning to start and then give the last meal 4 hours or more before they go to bed. At 5 weeks of age I would be feeding Ellie 3-4 times per day.

According to the feeding directions on the back of the bag, it should be about 1/2 cup, so the amount you are feeding should be adequate. And, great you are feeding three times a day. She is small and 5weeks is early to be separated from mother and littermates and such pups can be more prone to anxiety due to limited socialisation. I would recommend feeding 5-6times per day with a complete puppy food (feeding guidelines vary per brand, wet or dry) and once on puppy food would not need additional formula or supplements. Be sure to keep up to date with deworming medication and contact your vets office to arrange vaccinations. Keep her isolated from other, unvaccinated dogs until she is up to date

It good to be concerned about Mimi's diet. I like to feed based or her condition (thin or fat) and how hungry she is, not based on calories. A small poodle needs to eat four to six small meals a day to prevent hypoglycemia, low blood sugar, which is common in very small active puppies. It can result in seizures. I feed a good quality puppy food either dry or canned and feed enough at each meal that Mimi is hungry and just finishes it. If she is ravenous you are not feeding enough. As she gets older and bigger she will not be as hungry and you can reduce her to two meals a day. A treat when she pees and poops outside is good and give one when you put her into her crate. Congrats on your new puppy. I would first reference your puppy food, since every food has a different kcal/kibble ratio that will change how much you should feed her. However, on average you will feed a puppy 3 times a day and for a small breed dog it will be around 1/8-1/4 cup each feeding.
