My dog lives on a farm. What broad-spectrum wormer should I use?

Panacur (fenbendazole) is probably one of the best broad spectrum dewormers. It treats hookworms, whipworms, roundworms and some tapeworms. It is also used to treat Giardia and lungworms. You will need to contact your veterinarian for a dose based on your dog's body weight. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending doses for medications in the absence of a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship).

There are no natural remedies that works for worms, this is why when we get worms we take medications as well. Drontal is an excellent product and it will work for sure, you can use it once every 3 months after the next dose.

Intestinal worms need to be killed. There is no alternative or natural remedy that kills worms. The easiest and safest way to do that is to use a worming medication that does exactly that. If dosed properly according to the weight of the animal, worming medications will only affect the worms and will not affect the animal. There are some exceptions: Ivermectin should not be used in collies and other dogs with MDR1 defect. The dewormer i usually recommend is called Drontal plus, bear in mind that unlike the flea/tick products, dewormers do not protect your dog from future infestation, it only kills the worms on spot. for fleas and ticks i usually recommend Bravecto tablet or Advantix spot on. all these medications are considered to be high quality and safe.

I can certainly understand being frustrated with this problem! Drontal, in my experience, is a great deworming treatment, and it often takes at least two treatments to kill all the worms. That's because the first treatment kills the adult worms already present, and the second kills the ones who had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. Preventing worms does require treatment with a deworming medication every three months, and each dog in the house should be treated to prevent reinfection. I would recommend giving all the dogs in your home Drontal, and giving them this treatment every three months. You can also give them Panacur instead of Drontal, it's a good deworming treatment that works well in my experience.

It depends on the type of worm, if any, your pet has. Some dewormers tear for a lot of parasites, such as Fenbendazole, while other only treat for a few, such as Pyrantle Palmloate.
