How do I choose a dewormer and what's the right dose for my puppy?

I would recommend an over the counter dewormer like pyrantel. Pyrantel will kill roundworms and hookworms. I am not sure if India has a problem with whip worms or not. I would recommend taking a fecal sample to your local vet to determine what parasite they have and that way you can treat.

Panacur (fenbendazole) is probably one of the best broad spectrum dewormers. It treats hookworms, whipworms, roundworms and some tapeworms. It is also used to treat Giardia and lungworms. You will need to contact your veterinarian for a dose based on your dog's body weight. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending doses for medications in the absence of a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship).

This would depend on the types of intestinal parasites diagnosed. In general, Strongid (pyrantel pamoate) and Panacur (fenbendazole) are two of the most common dewormers used in puppies. Discuss an appropriate dose with your veterinarian before deworming the litter. It will likely need to be repeated in 2 and 4 weeks.

Hello. Ideally, you should bring a sample of the stool to your vet for a through analysis. That way, anything unusual can be properly treated. But in the meantime, you can go to any pet retailer & pick up several safe & common dewormers such as Pyrantel pamoate, or Safeguard wormer. You can get her an OTC deworming treatment called Panacur. Keep in mind that it doesn't kill tapeworms, which requires a prescription medication called prazaquantel. You will have to get that medication (I recommend Drontal) from a vet, but you can give Penelope Panacur.

Great question! I personally like Panacur. It's an excellent dewormer that you can get OTC. It's a three day course of treatment, and Bella will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. She should then be dewormed monthly until she is six months old, and should be dewormed every three months thereafter. I hope this helps!

If the stools are otherwise normal and there is no blood in the stool, then I would recommend the basic dewormer Pyrantel Palmoate, which treats for hookworms and roundworms. If your pets have obviously loose stool, then they may need a broader spectrum dewormer such as Fenbendazole. However it is always advised to get a fecal exam done first through your vet to identify which worms are present. Once that is done, the appropriate dewormer can be selected because not one dewormer will cover all possible intestinal worms).
