What vaccinations are essential for my new 8-week-old pitbull puppy?

However vaccines purchased from a store or online are not held to the same standards in terms of cold storage and handling so many times they can be damaged and ineffective. I recommend checking with your veterinarian as to which vaccines are recommended for your area (such as Lyme, Lepto) and what your pet will be exposed to and discussing a specific vaccine schedule for him. Your veterinarian can also give more exact price quotes and some corporate practices offer wellness plans for vaccines.

A pit bull is a big enough dog to get as many vaccines at once that she needs. You will need to discuss what she needs with your vet. It depends on her lifestyle, where you live, etc. The core vaccinations that all dogs need are DA2PP (distemper, parvo, hepatitis) and rabies. Other vaccines again, are dependent on her lifestyle. If she is not good around other dogs I would just call the vet clinic you are planning to take her to and tell them the situation. I am sure they can arrange to take you guys directly into an exam room so you don't have to wait in the lobby with other dogs. You can also go in by yourself when you arrive and once the lobby is clear from other dogs you can go out and bring her in. Most vet clinics are very accommodating to this. Spay her before she goes into her first heat (around six months of age) to significant reduce the risk of her developing mammary tumors and eliminate the chance of her developing a pyometra later in life. Put her on a good flea and tick prevention program, make sure to deworm her, and give her heartworm protection. I would have your pup seen by a vet this week to start all of these things to keep her healthy :-)

Hello and congratulations on adding Lilly to your family! Your core vaccines at this age need to be Distemper/Parvo and a Bordetella. She is older enough to start Leptospirosis and Lyme disease if these are indicated based upon where you live. Ask the vet if she would recommend these vaccines. Lilly will need another set of boosters in 3 weeks and she will be old enough to get her Rabies vaccine at that age. Canine Spectra 5 is ok to give Leo, but he will also need a rabies vaccine. The rabies vaccine is required by law in most US states, and it can only be given by a veterinarian.
