Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Tuttu is 3 months old, he should be receiving his distemper/parvo/adenovirus combination vaccines (a set of 3 every 3-4 weeks) and his kennel cough vaccine. When he is older he will also need a rabies vaccine.

The answer to which vaccinations he will need depends his individual risk factors. I am attaching a link to the American Animal Hospital Association's vaccine guideline below.

They recommend that all dogs receive DAPP and Rabies vaccinations. Those vaccines are considered Core vaccinations. Any other vaccinations are considered Non-Core and are only recommended for dogs that are at risk of contracting those diseases. The above website also includes a Lifestyle-Based Vaccine Calculator to help you determine which diseases he may be at risk for, but be sure to discuss that with your veterinarian to make the best decision.

The three core vaccines for dogs are Rabies, DAPP (also known as distemper/parvo) and bordetella (also known as kennel cough). Other vaccines for dogs at risk for exposure are influenza, lyme and leptospirosis. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

When she goes back for her second round is when I recommend to give her the 1st bordetella vaccine. This is for upper respiratory infections.
She should receive a distemper/parvo vaccine every 3 weeks until she is 15-16 weeks old, 2 bordetella vaccines starting around 9 weeks old, and a rabies vaccine no earlier than 12 weeks old. I hope this helps!

What essential shots does my new puppy need and when are they due?

Congratulations on adding Coco to your family! Coco's basic vaccines will be distemper/parvo, rabies and bordetella. Depending on where you live Leptospirosis and Lyme vaccines may also be indicated. Coco will need 3-4 rounds of vaccines depending on her age when the series is started. The series will end when Coco is 16-18 weeks of age. Until she goes through the whole series, she will not be protected so get the series started. Please post again if you have any further questions!

3-month puppy & 1-month kitten shots: What vaccines and Vetco cost?

Oh goodness, Kurama and the kitten are just adorable! At 3 months of age, it's the perfect time to give Kumara his second distemper/parvo combination vaccine. You may also consider bordetella (kennel cough), especially if he will be spending time around other dogs (grooming, boarding, dog park, etc) as well as leptospirosis, which has become more commonly seen in recent months in the northeast. At 16 weeks he'll get his final distemper/parvo booster, along with his rabies vaccination. You should also strongly consider a fecal test for parasites, as well as at least 2 deworming treatments. Your kitten will need 3 rounds of the feline distemper vaccine, starting at 8 weeks of age. Just like Kumara, she'll need rabies at 16 weeks. We are also recommending the feline leukemia vaccination for kittens, and also I recommend testing them for this disease as well as for feline AIDS. Dewormings for her as well as fecal tests are recommended. Does my puppy need titers or vaccines for immunity? What's the cost?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Luna is only 2 months old and she will not have sufficient titres at that age. We do the DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parvo and parainfluenza) vaccine starting at 7-8 weeks and booster it every 3-4 weeks until she has received 2 past 12 weeks of age. Titres are a waste of money on a 8 week old puppy. She likely has never received shots and it is in her best interest to just give them. The rabies vaccine isn't given until 12-16 weeks of age. Call your local Petco to be sure that they have the vaccine clinic. I hope this helps and I wish you and Luna the best!

Hello and congratulations on adding Lilly to your family! Your core vaccines at this age need to be Distemper/Parvo and a Bordetella. She is older enough to start Leptospirosis and Lyme disease if these are indicated based upon where you live. Ask the vet if she would recommend these vaccines. Lilly will need another set of boosters in 3 weeks and she will be old enough to get her Rabies vaccine at that age. You may also discussed separating some of these vaccines so Lilly is not receiving 4-5 at one time. Hope this helps!

What vaccines does my 4-month-old puppy need before getting spayed?

Some vaccines depend on where you live but the core vaccines are as follows: Distemper/adenovirus/parvo/parainfluenza- this is a combination vaccine given in a series 3-4 weeks apart Rabies- the age given depends on your area but usually at 16 weeks of age The optional vaccines are: Leptospirosis- 2 given 3-4 weeks apart Lyme- 2 given 3-4 weeks apart Bordetella- may or may not be given twice Flu- given 2-3 weeks apart. I recommend contacting a vet to set up an initial appointment. They can go over these in more detail and tailor them to Gnocchi’s lifestyle. They will also talk to you about intestinal parasite screening and heartworm and flea prevention. They can then discuss the spay procedure and get Gnocchi scheduled. Good luck and kisses to Gnocchi!
