Is it safe to use EnteDerm or Conzole for my cat's nail infection?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yeast infections are uncommon in cats. Ring work (fungal infection) might be what you are referring to. Has Candy been diagnosed by a Vet to have ring worm? The treatment of diagnosed ring worm in cats is an ORAL anti-fungal medications and/or Lyme sulfur dips. I do not recommend using an ointment that Candy could lick off her fur and ingest. Lyme sulfur dips can be found at a Veterinary hospital or online. I hope this helps and good luck!

Although quite safe on superficial wounds, cats groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed. I would not use it.

Usually a long course is needed when it is involving bone meaning having to give antibiotics for 4-8 weeks sometimes. If you would prefer to use medical therapy first, I would recommend they culture the wound so that they know which antibiotic would be best to use to treat this and use oral antibiotics instead of Convenia. Also, pain control medications are indicated to treat the pain. If no improvement is seen in that time frame, the toe amputation may be needed. You can use an e-collar to try to prevent licking which may delay healing. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'd call your Vet tomorrow and ask if they have the injectable antibiotic called convenia. I think that will solve you having to medicate Cinco. But yes the ointment baneocin should be ok, just prevent him from licking it. It may not be enough, especially if your Vet felt he needed to be on oral antibiotics. Good luck!

This presentation could be due localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. I would recommend using shredded paper in her litter box instead of sand or litter if she has infected toes. Do not apply topical medication. If she is licking her feet excessively she may need an e-collar or something to help prevent her from licking.
