Why is my new English bulldog puppy gagging with nose drainage?

It sounds like he might have an upper respiratory infection so he should be examined by a vet. He might need an antibiotic to treat. A change in weather should not cause him to gag and wheeze so I don't think that is the reason. Schedule an appointment with a vet as soon as you can.

Poor Diesel. The type of gagging and coughing makes me worry about an upper respiratory infection. Unfortunately, they do not have to be around any type of other animals or board facilities to contract this. Since he is starting to become lethargic, I would go ahead and try to get him in to see the vet. The vet will be able to listen to his heart and lungs to ensure everything sounds okay. They will also be able to determine if this is just upper respiratory or if his heart could be involved or if this has progressed to a pneumonia. They will be able to get him started on the proper meds to make him feel better. I hope this helps!

It can be a respiratory virus or bacterial infection causing the discharge and sneezing. Some viruses can be more severe than others, and english bulldogs can be more sensitive to an infection due to their short noses and extra tissue in the mouth. If he is eating and drinking still, you can have him checked when your regular vet is open. if he is having a hard time breathing, lethargic, GI upset, or anorexia, then I would find an ER to see him today.

English bulldogs can suffer from an large array of upper respiratory issues affecting both its inner and outer portions. In this case, you may be referring to an issue known as stenotic nares. This is a term to describe the narrowing of the nasal openings. In some cases, surgical intervention is required to avoid respiratory distress episodes in these fellas. This may be due to an upper respiratory infection that could be now affecting the lower respiratory system as well such as kennel cough. It is very important that you have Teddy evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to gather more information and proceed with an exam to determine what would be best at this point. They are likely going to consider prescribing antibiotics. Poor Henry! While this may be caused by an upper respiratory infection from having an endotracheal tube placed for surgery to keep his airways open to breathe, it may be unrelated. Henry may have kennel cough, or even something more serious like pneumonia. Unfortunately, these conditions require treatment with antibiotics, which are likely different from the ones he may have been given post surgery. If Henry is eating and playing normally, and just overall being his normal self, it is likely okay to wait until tomorrow morning to have him seen. Because of Henry’s breed, and him having a shortened airway, I do recommend that he is seen by an emergency vet if you are concerned that he is unable to breathe properly. This is an emergency in all dogs, but in breeds like pugs, bulldogs, etc it is important to have them stabilized as soon as possible. I’m happy to answer any addition questions you may have!
