What can I use for my English bulldog's dry eye and eye mucus?

The brand I recommend is called Genteal Eye Lubricating Gel. I'm not sure if Jax has had confirmation of dry eye with a Schirmer Tear Test but there are other medications needed to treat this condition. If you are only suspecting dry eye, make an appointment with his vet to have this test to confirm if he needs the medications or not. There are other conditions that can look the same. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the eyes to check for any trauma and to see if she has adequate tear production. Dry eye can cause crusting and discomfort and could lead to serious corneal damage if not addressed early on. If there is an eye infection, the veterinarian can prescribe antibiotic eye drops to help treat this as well. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Tyson is so cute! Cherry eyes are very common in English bull dogs. They can live with them, you just have to watch for dry eye and infection. Surgery is recommend by replacing and tacking the prolapsed gland. Removing the glad is NOT recommended. Just be aware that cherry eye surgeries have a high rate of failure and needing to be re-done. Good luck!

This treatment is clearly not effective. That is probably due to the fact that is not the right treatment for this type of dry eye. Dry eye is often an autoimmune disease, that means that requires an immunosuppressive drug (cyclosporine) to treat it. Based on the pictures and your description, I suspect that Maverick is dealing with a condition known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye). This is a condition that will not improve unless treated with eye medication such as Tacrolimus or Optimmune. This condition is localized destruction of the tear gland from the immune system and these eye medications suppress the immune system at the level of the eye to help try and stimulate tear production. I would recommend having the veterinarian recheck Maverick's eyes and perform what is called a Schirmer Tear Test to assess the tear production. If the eyes are below 21mm on the tear test, this is indicative of dry eye and needs to be treated appropriately. I hope this helps! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Since Toby has not improved on his medications, I highly recommend that you have Toby reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
