How to dry a dog: hairdryer, towel, or air dry? Don't forget collars!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Good to hear you and Ziggy are out walking despite the rain. You certainly can give him a bath if you want to. Routine bathing is best done with an Oatmeal Dog shampoo and I like to advise an Oatmeal Shampoo that doesn't have soap or detergent in it. This way your flea and tick products that you use won't be stripped away and will actually last as long as they say. You can also use an oatmeal based coat conditioner to condition the skin and hair coat. Good luck with Ziggy. If you don't want to mess with bathing, you could always spray a nice dog cologne or pet odor spray on him and then towel dry him off. Have fun and keep walkiing.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is always best to bathe in the morning where a little sun will help to dry them. You can initially gently dry them with a soft towel, & perhaps dry them a bit with a hair dryer on very low moving the nozzle constantly. But then put them in a spot out of any breezes & let them preen themselves dry. They will appreciate this! Take care.

I would not recommend doing that, just dry him very well with a towel and keep him in a warm place (direct sun outside would be best), generally though you should avoid bathing your cat altogether, i do not recommend bathing cats at all.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Don't cut it! It is very very easy to accidently cut the skin when trying to cut out a mat with scissors. It is best to use trimmers (electric shaver) to shave the area off vs. cutting with scissors. If you don't have trimmers at home, you can just leave it until you are able to go to a groomer or to a vet to have it shaved. You can try spraying detangling spray into the mat and then very slowly and gently work it out, however this often requires a large amount of time, and a very very patient dog. Most won't tolerate this and it needs to be shaved off. Best of luck with Ziggy.

I am going to assume Lucy is a dog, as I do not have that information here. My best advice is to bathe Lucy less frequently. Baths actually strip the natural oils in a dog's skin, which help maintain a healthy coat. If Lucy does get dirty on an outing and requires a bath, try to reward her when she is still and praise her verbally. Tell her "good girl" , "calm girl" and reward her calm moments. I would also try letting her air dry rather then blow drying her. The loud noise may be frightening her, due to her sensitive hearing. Post up care for an uncomplicated incision is 7 days of keeping it clean and dry. If an e collar will not fit and it bothers him, you can always put a baby sock over his nails. If his collar can't go due to the incision you can always switch to a halter or use a leash an incorporate one arm thru to hold him

Luckily for Ziggy dogs do not usually suffer from problems with hairballs like cats do. Since Ziggy is passing the hair it should not cause him any problems. If you notice that Ziggy becomes constipated or starts vomiting then I would be concerned. Some things you can do to help cut down on the shedding are to brush him regularly (2x a day), vacuum/sweep up the hair that falls off daily, add a fish oil supplementation to his diet to help with his skin and coat health and you may want to consider having him groomed/trimmed. It would also be a good idea to discourage him from licking the carpet excessively. If you notice that Ziggy licks/chews himself excessively he may have an allergy or flea issue. If this is the case I would recommend having him checked out by your vet because he may have a skin infection. I hope this helps. Best of luck!
