My dog's poop has hair. Is it from licking carpet? Is it a concern?

Poor Zyyz! His itching can be caused by impacted anal glands (small structures on either side of the anus that make mucus to lubricate the stool), an obstruction, or a food allergy. In my experience, issues with the anal glands are relatively common, especially in dogs who have softer than normal stool. Your vet will be able to express these glands carefully or determine if there is any other cause. You should definitely have him seen by a vet as soon as you can, as this is pretty uncomfortable. In the meantime, I recommend using an E-colla (or “cone”) to prevent your dog from reaching the area and causing further damage. i hope this helps and that Zyzz feels better soon!

Yes it can cause issues with the intestines if he ingest large amount of hair, i'm still not sure where exactly he gets all these hairs from though. you could use a hairball paste for cats, that can help dissolving and passing the hair but obviously the hair ingestion is the main thing that you need to prevent from him to do.

I am very sorry to hear that Ziggy is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. It sounds very likely that it was the denta stick if Ziggy has a sensitive stomach. I would try raw carrot sticks and brushing with a dog toothpaste and tooth brush for oral hygiene. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few hours I would continue to monitor Ziggy at home. Rest Ziggy's gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. If Ziggy does not improve, has profuse vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Ziggy seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian. Try not to let Ziggy eat his feces in he future as it will contribute to the problem. I know dogs can have this strange habit and it can be difficult to keep them away from it. Hello. The rusty colored skin is an indication that Bowie is spending a great deal of time licking his bum. Pigments in saliva will discolor hair once it is exposed to air & light. It is likely Bowie has allergies & this is causing his uncomfortable itchiness. He may also have an issue with his anal glands, which are located just inside the rectum, or he may have a parasitic problem, either internal or external like fleas. Your veterinarian can sort this out rather quickly & recommend any number of medications, supplements or therapies to make Bowie much more comfortable. I’m not too worried about 1 Human hair, but if he does consume enough of it I have seen it cause a blockage. Try to watch that he isn’t licking the floor after blow drying your hair , eating hair ties, or other avenues for consumption. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Vomiting in cats can be caused by hair balls, intestinal parasites, toxin ingestion, or even foreign body obstructions of the intestines. These signs can be unrelated to the hair loss, which may be caused by certain infections and hormonal or behavioral abnormalities. I recommend having Zimba seen by a vet if he continues to vomit or develops diarrhea or has a loss of appetite/energy.
