My dog has a yellow scab under collar. Is it a pimple? How to treat?

I agree that it's unlikely that Smith's collar caused this lesion in any way, but it could be causing it to be more irritated by rubbing it. From the picture, the lesion looks like an irritated papilloma, but the only ways to differentiate between different types of masses are through a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, both of which involve different ways to examine cells microscopically. Given the irritation present, continue to keep Smith's collar off of him as much as possible at home. You can also try to clean it with an antiseptic cleanser, like Hibiclens or betadine (both of which are available in most drugstores), but take care to rinse and dry well afterwards. Ultimately, I do think you should have this lesion examined by Smith's vet to help determine if it should be removed or if it can be monitored at home for changes. I hope that everything goes well!

It's hard to know exactly why she has the brownish discoloration. certainly you should try switching her to a different flea product and remove the collar. It may take up to two months for any discoloration to disappear. You could then try switching the collar to a nylon or fabric collar, again, it may take up to two months. In the mean time, there are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing Haddie's diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma by having Haddie wear an elizabethan collar if she is itching. Have her examined by the veterinarian if it appears to be getting worse. Ouch, poor Dax. I would gently clean this with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Whiskey has a skin infection and it looks to affect a fairly large area. Dogs can get skin infections for many reasons including flea bites, hot spots, yeast infections, allergies, skin mites and ringworm (which humans can get). Whiskey needs to see the veterinarian within the next 24 hours to start treatment and stop continued spread of the infection. Generally these pets will need the hair shaved and the area cleaned, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and some sort of protection (like an elizabethan collar) to prevent any scratching (this can make it worse). For now, Whiskey should wear a harness with his tags instead of the collar since the collar may be rubbing on the skin. The doctor may be able to determine the underlying cause from the exam or they may recommend a few basic diagnostics. I hope this helps and that he heals quickly.

It looks like Panda had an insect bite or a small injury to the skin under the collar and either she scratched it or the collar rubbed the area. Sores under collars in the summer when it is hot and humid can become more inflamed than normal. Please leave the collar off for a few days if you can and clean the area with an antibacterial soap. After rinsing and drying it you can apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment to help it heal and keep the the area protected from dirt. This should heal in a few days.
