My dog has a yellow bump on her belly. Is it a bacterial pimple?

The area in the picture looks like an area of what I would call excoriation or skin irritation usually seen when a dog scratches an area extensively due to itching. The yellowish area can be a pimple or what we call a pustule (a pimple containing pus). Pimples and pustules are usually raised lesions, extending up from the skin. It's a little difficult making out much detail in the picture. Sometimes damaged areas of skin turn yellowish like that and are usually flat in appearance, not raised up like a pimple/pustule. Hi there! I'm so sorry to read about Choco's troubles. It looks like he has a pustule. This is basically a pimple-like lesion caused very often by a staph infection. Sometimes the lesions are singular, or sometimes they can spread and get worse. If I have dog come in to see me with pustules, I will often prescribe a medicated shampoo to help clean the skin and also moisturize it. Dry skin can cause a break in the skin barrier and allow bacteria to congregate. I also will often times prescribe a course of oral antibiotics, to insure that the infection doesn't spread, and goes away quickly. I would monitor the lesion, and make an appointment to see Choco's veterinarian. They can evaluate Choco's skin and make sure there is nothing else going on, and see if the infection is severe enough for topical and oral medications. I hope you find this answer helpful! I would monitor the area and if the pimple does not go away or more lesions pop up it would be a good idea to have Frankie checked out by your veterinarian.

Hello, Thanks for the good picture. I agree that it does look like a solitary pimple, very well could be from an insect sting initially. I would just monitor this for now. If it spreads into many pimples, a larger sore, or an itchy rash, those would be reasons to have him seen by his veterinarian to ensure he doesn't have a skin infection that requires treatment. You can use a warm compress with saline or epsom salt water on the area for a few minutes twice per day. Otherwise, don't apply any ointments and just let it stay dry and open to air. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It looks like Chowder has a skin infection. This is common in puppies due to their weak immune system. I recommend taking him to a vet for oral antibiotics. You can try bathing him in puppy shampoo and make sure he is fully dry, but oral antibiotics are needed to cure the pustules. These appear to be little pus-filled bumps that occur due to a bacterial infection (pyoderma). Puppies commonly get this on their bellies and they usually go away with good cleaning. In an adult dog this can happen when they are in contact with something that irritates the skin and sets up an environment for infection. I recommend cleaning the belly with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take Calamity Jane into the vet for an exam.
