My dog won't walk far on leash. Is it pain or stress? Vet needed?

He could be painful somewhere as neck and back pain are common in small breed dogs. If this is not the case, his veterinarian may recommend laboratory work to determine if there is an internal disease causing his symptoms. In the meantime, encourage him to continue to eat and drink. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly neck or back pain though it could also be due to arthritis. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Sausage evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Sausage feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Good luck and have a good day!

I recommend to have Banjo examined by the veterinarian. This behavior sounds like something is hurting him though high anxiety could also look like this. The problem is that Banjo cannot talk and tell you what he is feeling so you need to have him examined to make sure it's not pain. Pain could be anywhere in his body but common conditions include a disc problem in the neck/spine, a pinched nerve or pancreatitis. After the physical exam, the doctor will have a better idea of what to do next. I hope this helps.

It could be Loxely isn't feeling well or may be in pain. You can see behavior changes in dogs when they are sick or painful. I would keep an eye on him for the next 24-48 hours. If this behavior continues over this time, then I would have him seen by a vet. Poor Cooper! It sounds like he is in a lot of pain if he is having problems putting weight on his limbs and isn't eating or drinking. I would be concerned he may have a problem with his neck, back, or hips causing this difficulty. The best thing to do is rest him as much as possible until you can get out and get him into a vet. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You may have to use a sling under his abdomen back by his hips to help support him when he gets up, and I would keep food and water near him so he doesn't have to move much to get to it. Try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. As soon as you can, get him into a vet, which hopefully can be soon. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for your question about Sasha. Some of the symptoms that you are describing such as agitation and reluctance to lie down/walk normally could be secondary to pain/discomfort. Poor Bodie. Sometimes when they are showing these odd signs, they are in pain. It could be his neck or back hurting. Since this is so unusual for him, I would have your vet do a thorough exam on him to help figure out what is causing this weird behavior before it gets any worse. Nausea is possible by I would excpect excessive licking of the lips or drooling excessively and not willin to eat much. If you think it could be anxiety, you could try acalming collar like adaptil.
