My dog won't jump, has a stiff stomach. Is it serious or gas?

The abdominal pain and inability to jump may be a sign of spinal cord trouble. Seeing that Scruffy is is a dachshund, there is always a possibility that he has a slipped disk (Inter vertebral Disk Disease). This is very serious and time is of the essence. Please take Scruffy to a vet or Pet ER now. The longer you wait the worse the condition may get. This is also very painful. He could also have a serious tummy ache, which would need to be ruled out.

Poor Maxx! He is a handsome boy. In Dachshunds, back problems are very common due to their elongated spine, and he could be painful at his back by his tail, leading to sensitivity when touched around that area. A painful back would keep him from jumping on the couch and whimpering when picked up. I would rest him tonight and tomorrow, no running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead, and bring him right back in when he's done. I would take him into the vet first thing Monday morning for a physical exam and x-rays. The vet can diagnose if he does have a problem with his back, and how best to treat it. Unfortunately, Dachshunds frequently need surgery to repair their back problems. I hope this helps!

If Maggie is not showing any signs from gastrointestinal tract, like vomiting or diarrhea, blockage will be a very unlikely explanation of her discomfort. If she has difficulties to jump, or if she is refusing to jump at all, I would suspect that she has spinal pain (which may look very similar to abdominal pain) or pain in the hind legs (hips, knees). If she continues to be uncomfortable and not herself, I would recommend to see your local vets to find out what is going on and give her the right treatment. At the moment, I don't think there are any remedies that you can treat her at home with.

He could be in pain when laying down, such as joint pain, again causing him to squeak. Because he is making painful noises when jumping, I would be more inclined to think it's a problem with his musculoskeletal system rather than his stomach or GI system. I would rest him tonight, no running, jumping, or playing. Take Shaggy out to toilet on a lead only and bring him right back in when he's done. Tomorrow morning, I would have him seen by a vet to diagnose what is causing him pain so he can be treated. Please do not give him any human pain medications as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The vet can give him pain medications as needed.

It sounds like she could have a problem with her back. Intervertebral disc disease is very common in the dachshund breed and she may have a disc that is starting to herniate. She needs to be examined by a vet to evaluate her back and determine the best treatment plan. Your vet may need to take an x-ray of her back. Anti-inflammatory medications, muscle relaxers, and pain medications are used to treat this condition, as well as strict rest. No jumping, running, or playing for 3-6 weeks. It could be that Oz had severe gastric upset. When dogs have an upset stomach it can cause severe gas and even diarrhea. I would continue feeding the bland diet and start an over the counter probiotic. However if it gets worse or does not continue to improve I would recommend taking Oz to a vet for a good exam and medications to help resolve the upset stomach.. hope that helps

Some signs include a reluctance to jump, weakness in the rear legs, sudden urinary and/or bowel incontinence, reduced appetite, reduced activity, and muscle spasms down the back. If you see any of those signs, have Oscar seen by a vet right away. Best of luck.
