Why is my cat walking weird, lifting legs, purring, and shivering?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Milo but it sounds like this was an isolated incident since he has been normal today. I would continue to monitor him for any return of problems that you noticed and if they appear, I would have your vet evaluate him to make sure his legs are normal and that he seems physically within normal limits. Hard to say what happened. He may have been dreaming and was startled, possibly straining his legs. Sounds like he's good today so I don't think you have anything to worry about. It’s hard to say if he is pulling up the leg due to pain, nerve tingling or just an odd habit. The best way to know if Ming is having any pain would be to take him to his veterinarian who will put the leg through full range of motion exercises. The doctor may also recommend radiographs if something is suspicious. One thing you can do prior to your visit is to record Ming walking around normally, jumping and also when he is holding his leg up. Often cats don’t walk in the clinic very well so it can be hard to visualize subtle lameness. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Penguin! His symptoms are strange and possibly indicate pain. My biggest concern would be if he is having trouble urinating. Check his litter box and see if there is urine present. If there is no urine (and that is unusual) or if there are small drips of urine then I would take him to the Vet. If he gets up follow him to see what he does. Check the house for vomit and be sure he is eating. Any excessive grooming of his penis may also indicate a urinary problem. I would not be concerned about her twitching a little when you touch her back. Sometimes when cats get happy and excited they seem like they are shaking their back/lower body but it is just the stance that they are in. Without seeing what she is doing it is hard to say if it is something to be concerned about. A lot of times your veterinarian will be willing to look at the video to see if it is something to be seen or not. I would call and see if they will be willing to look at a video on their email (if they have one). Otherwise if she is acting completely normal otherwise I wouldn't worry at this time. It could have been just Milo acting funny, or could have been a focal seizure, or something else. I also recommend having Milo checked for signs of heart disease, liver disease (shunts) and signs of congenital brain malformations. Best of luck with Milo!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mumu. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. He could be painful from some trauma that occurred outside such as a cat fight wound. If this is not the case, then he may have been exposed to a toxin. His veterinarian will examine him and determine how best to help him feel better. I hope this information helps!

It could be Shaky is in pain, either from his back or hips. Rest him tonight, keep him indoors if he's allowed outside, and watch him. If he's still acting this way in the morning, have him seen by a vet. Do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. Best of luck.
