Dog has white worms in poop on Trifexis. What wormer can I buy?

Typically tapeworms can be treated with anybody worming medication that contains praziquantel . However this could just be a side effect of the poop sitting out and insects laying eggs on the poop. Deworming should not harm your dog.

Those look like they are probably roundworms. She would have gotten them from coming into contact with infective eggs in the soil most likely. (From where another dog pooped and that poop contained roundworm eggs, then your dog was nosing around near where that was (even if there was no obvious poop on the ground, the eggs will stay in the soil). It is not a result of the food. You can get effective roundworm treatment over the counter. Look for a pyrantel product and follow the label instructions. Feed stores will generally carry it. Typically, the only type of worms that can be seen in a dog's feces are roundworms and tapeworms. Medications that kill tapeworms are available only from the vet, and do require a visit. While there are OTC deworming treatments, they don't kill tapeworms, so you could be treating Chato but not killing the worms in his system. I would recommend taking him into the vet for an exam. He should get Drontal, which kills the four types of worms that infect dogs: Tapeworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. You can't visually tell the difference between hookworms and roundworms. Thankfully, treatment is similar. You can use an OTC dewormer like the one linked below. This is correct that Heartgard doesn't cover whipworms. I would talk to your vet about prescribing him a dewormer for the whipworms. Depending on the type of dewormer they have available, he may need to be dewormed again in the future. Finally, since we know you have whipworms in your environment you may consider switching him to something that covers whipworms on a monthly basis. Talk to you vet about which heartworm preventatives they have available that cover whipworms (ex: trifexis, interceptor). I hope this helps!

The most common tapeworm is flea transmitted like you discuss. There are over the counter medicines and the drug you would want to use is called Praziquantal. It is available under many brand names but that is the drug that we use in the States to treat most tapeworm infections. Good luck with Roxy
