My dog has tapeworms from fleas. What medicine should I give her?

Hello. There are wormers available over the counter that will take care of tapeworms. Make sure the product contains the ingredient praziquantel, or you can pick up SafeGuard canine wormer at Petco. If you want to be sure of what you might be seeing befors giving Poppy any wormer, you can always take a fecal sample to your vet for analysis. Hello. There have been some reports of drug resistance with tapeworms. I would talk to your vet about either upping the dose of the praziquantel or trying an alternate drug called epsiprantal. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Bella has the tapeworm from the fleas. You need to treat her for the fleas with a good preventative, I recommend Comfortis, Bravecto or the Seresto collar. You are correct. He has what appears to be tapeworms, which is caused by either fleas (most common cause) or ingesting another pets feces that has worms in it. I would notify the friend, get him on a flea preventative if not on one already, and then take him to your friends approved vet who can then treat for the tapeworms. These are usually easily resovled with 1 dose of specific dewormer for tapeworms. THese worms are transmissible (hand-to mouth) to people, so its best to always use good hygiene practices and keep young kids away from the pet until the worms are resolved.
