My dog has white rice-like worms after dewormer. Is this normal?

It does look like this could be undigested rice. If you are giving her a broad-spectrum dewormer that kills tapeworms on a regular schedule, then it should be keeping her free of those. If you want to be sure that she is free of parasites or if these spots in her stool continue, I would recommend having a fecal exam done. Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Parasite eggs are microscopic so I'm wondering if what you're seeing in the stool is actually eggs. It could be adult roundworms or even tapeworm eggs. It is not uncommon to see the adult roundworms as they are killed by the deworming process. If it is tapeworm eggs, you may need to end up treating for fleas (as this is how tapeworms are spread). The Dolpac should help treat for tapeworms and the praziquantel should be effective for giardia and roundworms. It is possible that you may end up needed to retreat but I suspect what you are seeing may be normal for the deworming process. Definitely take a fecal sample back to your veterinarian in about 3 weeks to ensure the infection is cleared. Also the prevent reinfection make sure to clean up your dogs feces from the yard. If at any time Echo seems to be acting ill or has diarrhea I would take her back to your veterinarian.

It could be a tapeworm segment, which look like a grain of rice. Praziquantel is needed to kill tapeworms, which is available by prescription only from the vet. I would take your dog into the vet on Monday. The vet can confirm she has tapeworms, and can give her Drontal to kill them (Drontal contains praziquantel).

You can always post a picture to confirm. I would deworm her with a product that gets tapeworm. Yes, I would advise to get Phones dewormed. Rice shaped worms are usually tape worms BUT I have seen clients describe roundworms as rice shaped as well. I would advise a broad spectrum dewormer and a fecal exam. If he does have tapeworms, then that means he also has fleas. Fleas transmit the tapeworms. You veterinarian can prescribe the best flea medications and dewormer for your situation. If the diarrhea does not resolve after treatment, then there are many other things that can cause loose stool. I hoe this helps!

It sounds like your cat(s) have tapeworms. Most commonly, these are contracted when your cat's are grooming themselves and swallow adult fleas. Typically, where there are tapeworms, there are or have been fleas. Tapeworms require specific dewormers and the safest ones are available through your veterinarian.

The rice should not have come out whole and undigested. What you were most likely seeing is tapeworm segments, which look very much like rice. If you can, bring a stool sample to the vet so they can analyze it. If it is tapeworm, you will be given a dewormer to use.
