What are these white rice-like worms on my cat's tail and bed?

Hello. These are definitely tape worm segments. When you deworm your cat again, make sure it says it takes care of tapeworms. Also, be sure you are using a good flea preventative regularly, as this is the most common way that cats pick up tapeworms. The other way is through hunting & eating small prey. It sounds like Sasha has tapeworms. She will need a medication call Drontal to kill them, which you get from the vet. Tapeworms are transmitted by fleas, so you will need to treat her for fleas as well. Fleas live in the environment, not on the cat, so she could have fleas even if you don't see any. They jump on to feed, and then jump off. I can give you a flea treatment for her. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Little white pieces that look like rice are tapeworms. The tapeworms might be coming out because they are dying from the dewormer. Tapeworms are transmissible between species so your cat and yourself can get tapeworms. I would wash all the blankets in hot water, and avoid letting her sit in places where your face would go. The transmission to other animals is by eating the eggs/pieces of rice looking things that are coming out. Also, I would talk to your vet about getting another deworming dose, and make sure the product covers for tapeworms. Best of luck with Haylee.

These are little segments of tapeworm, I would recommend getting your cat wormed asap. Milbemax or broadline works well. Treating for fleas would be useful as they are part of the tapeworm life cycle.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Rice like worm segments indicate tapeworm. WormEze just gets round worms which Gracie likely has as well but doesn't get tapeworm. You will need to purchase droncit, cestex OR drontal plus to get rid of the tapeworm. Cats get tapeworm from fleas so check her well for a flea infestation. Hopefully once the worms are gone her anus will get better. Gracie will need to start her vaccinations in the next 1-2 weeks. I hope this helps and I wish you and Gracie the best!

These are tape worm proglottids, ie the tape worm's egg containers. Tape worm is spread by fleas. These tape worms are not contagious to people. You will need to get a cat wormer that contains Praziquantel. This will kill the tape worm. You should also do some flea prevention to prevent further infection with tapeworm.

The worms in the photo appear to be tapeworms or, less commonly, pinworms. these can cause impactions and diarrhea, especially in kittens. Unfortunately, I am unable to prescribe medication for Coco without having examined her. However, your veterinarian can quickly determine the exact type of parasites present with a fecal sample and prescribe the appropriate treatment. Because many parasites are transmitted by fleas, it is important for Coco to be on a monthly flea preventative. You should also be careful when cleaning out her litter box to make sure you wash your hands well with soap and water, as some of these parasites can infect humans. I hope all is well!
